Be kind to yourself 💖

Be kind to yourself 💖

When you are stuck in blaming yourself, you cannot move forward. Your energy is wasted in highlighting mistakes instead of finding path out of them. Because of that, we feel beaten down and weak.

The ancient texts praise the virtue called akārpaṇya. It means, don’t make yourself miserable and small when you face difficulties. If we keep criticizing ourselves, we can only be miserable. Instead, accept yourself as you are in the present. Be kind to yourself. This will free you from that cycle of blaming yourself. Then you can expand and grow beyond the past mistakes, with new actions and new patterns.

YOGA AID PANEL DISCUSSION: ALLYSHIP IN YOGA SPACES TOWARDS STEWARDSHIP Saturday 6/26/21 3 PM - 4:15 PM EST LIVE via Zoom Moderated by Priya Saini Verma, with panelists Alyssa Wostrel, Executive director IAYT, Mado Hesselink, Shannon Crow, AnnaLynne McCord

Many great figures have applied Yoga Philosophy in their struggle for liberation (Dr. Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Dayanada Saraswati) in face of oppression with the prevailing beliefs of their times that they were “less then men”, “not equal”, and “not free”. Now, the path of liberation for all beings rests in our hands as their legacy. Today’s yoga world has seen a long departure from applying yoga philosophy towards liberation for all. A movement towards “stewardship” not “ownership” of yoga is taking shape. This panel discussion will explore how stewardship arises from this shared sense of love of yoga and gratitude for its life changing transformation. We will explore how “allyship”, born of this love of yoga, carries a sense of responsibility towards yoga’s understanding, preservation and authentic application.

YOGA AID PANEL DISCUSSION: “CHAI CHAT” ON “NAMASTE AND CULTURAL APPROPRIATION’ Sunday 6/27/21 11AM - 12:15 PM EST via Zoom Moderated by Priya Saini Verma, with panelists Susanna Barkataki, Anjali Kamath Rao, and Pooja Virani

The application of the greeting “Namaste takes on different contexts in yoga spaces. This intimate panel discussion invites attendees to share a “virtual” cup of tea to explore what “Namaste” means to each panelist, through the lens of South Asian teachers. We will expand into acknowledging yoga’s source culture, its multiple lineages, philosophies and texts. Listen to what South Asian teachers have to say about western practices of yoga and how we now play a role in its preservation for generations to come.

Today on the International Day of Yoga and in celebration of the birth anniversary Sri T. K. V. Desikachar, I share this chanting session by some of my current teachers, for your enjoyment. Even though the chants may be new and alien to you, take a few moments to close your eyes, focus on your breath and just listen to the sound of the chants.
My pranāms to my guru-s for continuing the tradition. ॐ श्री गुरुभ्यो नमः (OM SHRI GURUBHYO NAMAHA)
May you find peace within

Food for thought . . . . .

Let's make 2021 about deep nourishment, renewal, and loving self-care!

And what better way to start than a three-part virtual workshop on Ayurveda and Food!

Starting next Tuesday night for 3 weeks from 6-8 PM. a 6-hour immersive experience talking about the paradigm-shifting Ayurvedic perspective on food and how it informs my own practice year-round.

We will discuss all the basic concepts, have detailed notes and explore the idea of a seasonal pantry. We will discuss how best to shop and prepare meals in simple, yet delicious ways. We will explore the world of spices and their medicinal properties and maybe explore recipes. For session 2 and 3, we can cook together to fully entrain the ideas.

This workshop is sure to bring many ‘aha’ moments as we explore the deep meaning of food in our lives and learn how to nourish ourselves through the seasons.
