Meet Emily, one of our incredible heart warriors! Born with Down syndrome and a complete Atrioventricular Septal Defect (AVSD), Emily underwent open-heart surgery in 2013 under the care of her cardiologist, Dr. Usama Kanaan.

Emily’s journey is filled with strength, determination, and joy. She loves swimming with Angelfish of Georgia, competing in the Special Olympics, and singing her favorite Taylor Swift songs. When she is not in the water, she enjoys performing with her middle school chorus and spending time with friends.

This year, Emily reached a big milestone by graduating from all her private therapies after 12 years. She continues to grow more independent each day and inspires everyone around her with her bright spirit. ✨

Join us in celebrating and cheering on Emily, a true example of courage, determination, and love. 💚💙

Big news from Children’s Heart Center! 🩵

In June 2025, Dr. Robert Whitehill and his team implanted a novel extravascular defibrillator (EV-ICD) in 8-year-old Kyndall, who was experiencing dangerously fast heart rhythms — a condition that can lead to sudden cardiac arrest. This less invasive option is one of the first procedures of its kind for children and may help reduce long-term risks.

We’re so proud of our care team and the remarkable progress being made for kids and families every day!

Born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), 10 year old Benjamin has faced more challenges than most kids his age, but you’ll find him running around with friends, laughing, and enjoying every moment.

Cared for by Dr. Neill Videlefsky at our Lawrenceville clinic, Benjamin loves chickens, popcorn, Stitch, and baseball (especially the Savannah Bananas and the Atlanta Braves!)

Every milestone feels like a victory for his parents — turning 10, thriving in fifth grade, and playing just like any other kid. After needing comfort and distraction for years during blood draws, Benjamin recently sat through one without tears, calmly getting it done. His parents were so proud, he got two treats that day!

His family says, “He has half a heart, but he lives life fully.” 💙
