Equine Therapy Atlanta Jeanne Bowers utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. Cyndi Gall i Why horses?

Equine Assisted Therapy is a uniquely powerful method of therapy to address a multitude of emotional issues. They are natural empaths who easily connect with humans emotionally and reflect our feelings back to us. They are non-judgmental, non-critical, curious, and loving. Therapy with horses offers promotion of physical and emotional growth in persons who struggle with PTSD, anxiety, addiction, depression, OCD, social phobia, ADD and ADHD, marriage and family issues, as well as corporate team and leadership training. Our staff include Jeanne Bowers, LAPC, and Cyndi Gall, equine specialist. Combined, Jeanne and Cyndi have over 50 years experience working with horses. As a counselor, Jeanne utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mind/body techniques, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy.

When I started working with kids oh too many years ago (30+), I told myself "you don't have to make a big impact, you just have to hope that at one time in one of these kid's lives they will remember something you said and it will help them. That will be enough." Well, today, all these years later, a young woman I worked with last year gave a senior speech and said that something I told her was her guiding principal in life. "Where attention goes, energy flows." I listened to her speech and felt that my self-talk all those years ago had finally come home to affirm and validate me. We all matter. Never underestimate the difference one person can make in another person's life.

So yesterday we had a booth at the Eden Project Veteran's Day Event in Fayetteville. We signed up three veterans for our next Equine Therapy event on either December 2 or 3 (we added a day to give more options). Talking to veterans about what does and doesn't work for them, I learned three important things: (1) they were very relieved to hear that they didn't have to talk about their trauma as part of the therapy. "Every therapist I go to wants me to rehash it and I'm sick of it." (2) "I don't want to go to some kumbaya group to get warm and fuzzy and talk about my stuff. It doesn't help me." (3) all the VA wants to do is throw pills at me. I don't like the way they make me feel." Equine therapy is about healing through mindful presence with horses. No need to talk about the past. Also, for those who are concerned about riding, all of the work is done on the ground, riding is not part of equine therapy unless and until later stages and riding is requested by the client. So, to anyone who is undecided but curious, I hope this post puts your mind at ease about what you can expect if you sign up. A great day out in nature with horses, comrades, loving equine specialist and therapist, and good food. If you are tired of traditional ways, come give us a try. No charge for veterans on December 2 or 3, 2017.

Because I am a counselor who also uses equine assisted therapy as part of my practice, I thought this article would be a good one to support equine assisted therapy. Instead, i found an eloquent description of what depression is, but what's more, in this powerful paragraph, what therapy is: "Treatment turned out to be nothing like I imagined. There was minimal mood lighting, pedantic banter or forced breathing exercises. Therapy and treatment turned out to be very much like taking riding lessons. I paid a therapist for the same reason I paid a riding instructor: to notice things. They used their training and expertise and made me better. Just like a riding instructor had shown me that I had a nasty habit of letting the horse fall in at the corner, a therapist showed me how my emotional patterns were making me sicker. After noting the problem, they then gave me strategies to improve."

Well said. Well said. Thank you for noticing what we, as therapists, truly do.

When I teach horse riding to friends and family, I use like and as like trailer hitches: they pull my students into different concepts while they are in the saddle. “Hold the reins like a baby bird.” “Imagine the horse as a river, and your legs as the banks guiding the river along.” “I want you Cont...

Just returned from an equine therapy session with first responder with PTSD. As of today, he's had 4 sessions. He tells me he's gone from 2-3 nightmares a night to 2 over the course of the past two weeks and that others are noticing the dramatic change in him. Horses are amazing healers. I know they heal me every day.

Just finished couples counseling with EAT. There were so many amazing moments that I can't go into for privacy purposes, but I can tell you this. The horse we chose was AMAZING. He knew exactly what to do, how to walk, how to act, and he TOOK CARE OF THEM. He humbled me.

We have recently been blessed with a firefighter/EMT client who tells us that his equine therapy has changed his life and he can't wait to get to the next session each week. That's very gratifying for Cyndi and I to hear, that the horses are doing their jobs mending wounded hearts. Tonight we have a couple's counseling session. It's amazing to me how deep this work can go, and how easily it all happens organically with these wonderful beasties who give us their best each and every time.
