In the world of sports, "formidable" usually describes the opponent across the line of scrimmage. But this March—as we celebrate both Women’s History Month and Brain Injury Awareness Month—we’re using it to describe the woman protecting the most important player on the field: the brain. 🧠⚡️
Dr. Morgan Heinzelmann-Weisbaum, MD, isn't just a neurologist at Emory; she is a pioneer in Sports Neurology and Pain Medicine. Her journey is as formidable as her expertise:
• Athlete Turned Advocate: A former intercollegiate athlete herself, Dr. Heinzelmann-Weisbaum’s career was sparked by her own personal experience with a traumatic brain injury. That "unique moment" in her athletic career cemented her mission to ensure no athlete has to navigate recovery alone.
• A Clinical Powerhouse: From the sidelines of pro and collegiate games to the halls of Emory Healthcare, she provides the same elite neurological care to every patient that she gives to the pros.
• Cutting-Edge Researcher: Her work goes deep—studying everything from the impact of playing surfaces on concussions to s*x differences in symptom reporting. She is literally writing the playbook on how we understand brain health.
She empowers athletes to prioritize their long-term health, proving that the strongest move a player can make is protecting their mind.
Join us in celebrating a woman who is changing the face of sports medicine.

To continue celebrating Women’s History Month, we are highlighting a physician whose career is defined by one word: TENACIOUS. For Dr. Eziamaka Obunadike, MD, tenacity isn’t just a professional trait—it’s a lived experience.
