Merry Christmas and Happiest of all Holidays you celebrate!
Yes, I attended a December birth next to a Christmas tree! The baby was not coming, so I started asking the greatest midwife question of all, “what is needed here?”
And of course the baby came earthside when we were not in any of the areas we had set up for birth, but rather in the simple space next to the tree, with angelic sound frequencies on, and lots of love directed toward the baby in the belly.
Sometimes we forget it’s all about the birth of a baby. We get lost in how hard the journeys are. Yet there is a pure innocent baby coming who is the magical gift to all who know it.

So this is a newer drug Nurse Midwives carry for hemorrhages. When blood doesn’t clot well… which is kinda unpredictable…TXA can do a great job . It’s IV… so you won’t find this in the midwife bags of traditional midwives, but I like having it, because I can, and there’s always a slim risk of dramatic stuff happening with birth.
I still think the woo woo stuff like talking to the uterus works pretty amazing though. That just doesn’t fix all physiology.
Interestingly, most women that I call “red bleeders” will admit to heavy periods too. TXA as a pill can be used to minimize period bleeding volume.
If you’re a bleeder I recommend getting your vitamin K level up in third tri too 🥬

Yes to this. I see the most integrated mothers and babies at 6 weeks postpartum when they say “we’re cosleeping”.

And my favorite lactation consultant agrees!

“Hats off to this wonderful and honest woman for speaking 🔊 the whole truth. So many parents come in overwhelmed by all the information that deny them of normal and natural parenting.

So, here is the true. You are your baby’s safest place. You are warm, comfortable and everything they need. They have a strong, normal and natural need to cozy up. Don’t deny what you want to do based on someone’s information that says natural and normal is an issue.

So if you want to cozy up do. If you don’t do not. But don’t go fighting over this matter because there are more important things to enjoy on this here internet 😀😃”

Bare minimum… but we need to keep spreading the news that babies like midwives at their births and “free birthing” is not God’s design. Every baby and mother deserves midwife wisdom and skills. It’s an ancient and important profession, and we midwives do a lot in our role.

When interviewing your homebirth midwife, make sure she has these skills and that she talks in depth about them.

The violet sky and radiant glow of the moon greets me after a personal day of massage, NET and a workout. Today was for me, and much of my time this year was too. For the mothers who found me and entered the depths of my midwifing, I am still processing how amazing this work is and how powerful midwifing is for you the vessel of new life and the welcoming soul. I’ve contemplated it a lot this year. It’s a lot more powerful than they told us. I don’t understand how we are all walking around without wise women and healers and midwives in our usual lives. Makes no sense women let this leave our culture. 🤷‍♀️

Amniotomy and Cord Prolapse by Judy Slome Cohain
Rate of cord prolapse directly increases with increasing rates of amniotomy. Where amniotomy is never practiced and vaginal exams are extremely restricted, no cord prolapse is reported. Rates of 3–4/1000 cord prolapses were reported with 26–89% rates of amniotomy (Dilbaz 2006; Uygur 2002). In a study of inductions, which usually include amniotomy, a 7/1000 rate of cord prolapse was reported.

Midwifing means understanding that the body can handle things, and that true dysfunction starts to deviate from a little to more, so you can watch and see what process is unfolding, and keeping the peace for all of it.
