As Match Day draws near, Adrian Day is reflecting on a journey shaped by perseverance, mentorship and community.

Originally from a rural community with limited resources and few physician role models, Adrian knew early on that pursuing medicine would require determination and self-belief. Now a fourth-year medical student at Morehouse School of Medicine, he is preparing to take the next step in his career as he pursues emergency medicine.

During his time at Morehouse, Adrian became deeply involved in community service through the student-run H.E.A.L. Clinic, where he served as co-director and patient manager. Working with patients navigating barriers such as transportation challenges, food insecurity and limited access to care reinforced the importance of looking beyond a diagnosis to understand the broader conditions affecting health.

Adrian also believes strongly in mentorship and representation. As a Black male medical student, he hopes his journey can help inspire young people — particularly young Black men — to see that a career in medicine is within reach.

For Adrian, Match Day represents more than a residency placement. It marks the culmination of years of hard work and the beginning of a new chapter in serving communities through medicine.

As Match Day approaches on March 20, Naomi Coles is reflecting on a journey that began six years ago at Morehouse School of Medicine.

Originally from Prince George’s County, Maryland, Naomi first joined the Morehouse community through the Master of Science in Medical Sciences program before matriculating into the MD program. Drawn by the institution’s commitment to community health and health equity, she found a place where service and leadership were central to the student experience.

During her time in medical school, Naomi has served as both Class President and MD Council President, advocating for her classmates and helping strengthen the student community. She has also been a dedicated leader within the H.E.A.L. Clinic, supporting outreach efforts that provide care and resources to uninsured patients across metro Atlanta and rural Georgia.

Naomi plans to pursue internal medicine with long-term aspirations in cardiology, focusing on women’s cardiovascular health. Her passion stems from a deeply personal experience after watching her grandmother suffer a heart attack at age 50, an event that sparked her interest in understanding cardiovascular disease and its disproportionate impact on Black and brown communities.

For Naomi, Match Day represents more than the next step in her career. It reflects years of preparation, leadership, faith and the support of a community that helped her reach this milestone.

With Match Day approaching on March 20, fourth-year medical student Domonique White is reflecting on a journey shaped by faith, perseverance and a commitment to serving communities in need.

Originally from Norfolk, Virginia, Domonique first joined the Morehouse School of Medicine community in 2018 as a student in the Master of Science in Medical Sciences program. After matriculating into the MD program in 2020, she is now preparing to pursue emergency medicine — a specialty she set her sights on years ago while working as a medical scribe.

During that time, she saw firsthand the difference emergency physicians could make in the lives of patients. But she also noticed something else: the lack of representation in the field.

“I remember only one Black emergency medicine physician,” she recalls. “We need more Black emergency medicine physicians, and I want to be part of that change.”

Throughout her training in Atlanta, Domonique cared for patients facing homelessness, limited access to primary care and other systemic barriers to treatment. Those experiences reinforced the importance of listening to patients and ensuring they understand their care.

Match Day will also mark a major personal milestone. Domonique will become the first physician in her immediate family — an achievement she describes as both humbling and deeply meaningful.

The Morehouse School of Medicine MD Class of 2028 Community Service Committee hosted Medicine in Action: From Classroom to Community, a student-led event focused on serving neighbors across the Atlanta area experiencing homelessness and food insecurity.

Together with community partners and volunteers, MSM students helped distribute 200 hygiene kits, serve more than 100 meals, offer 20 haircuts, raffle $180 in gift cards and share approximately 350 articles of clothing with individuals in need! 🌟

Just as meaningful as the resources provided was the opportunity for students to connect with community members, listen to their stories and better understand how to serve underrepresented populations.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, resources and compassion to make this event possible. We’re grateful for this community and look forward to continuing this work in the years ahead. 💙

With Match Day just 15 days away, fourth-year medical students at Morehouse School of Medicine are preparing for one of the most meaningful milestones of their medical journeys.

For Montaser “Monty” Ahmad, the moment represents much more than opening an envelope. It reflects four years of mentorship, community and personal growth.

Born in California, Monty arrived in Georgia for orientation having never visited the state before. Far from home and without a car, he quickly found support among classmates and faculty who helped him navigate both life and medical school. That sense of community became a defining part of his experience.

As he prepares to match into internal medicine, Monty says his time at Morehouse School of Medicine has shaped how he approaches patient care. “You can learn pathology anywhere,” he explains. “But the way bedside manner is modeled here and the focus on seeing patients as whole people is special.”

Through clinical experiences across Atlanta including Grady Hospital and service at the MSM H.E.A.L. Clinic, he has learned that caring for patients means understanding the barriers they face beyond the hospital walls.

With Match Day set for Friday, March 20th, Monty and his classmates are ready for the next chapter.
