if this year felt like a lot and included quiet growth more than outward fruit, this one's for you.

just because it’s quiet doesn’t mean nothing’s happening. you are still growing—even when no one sees it, even if it feels like steps backward. and especially when you feel inner rumblings before you see physical manifestation of said growth.

take a breath and trust that what’s taking root in you is sacred and deserves tender loving self-care.

in "Black Girls Breathing: Heal from Trauma, Combat Chronic Stress, and Find Your Freedom," Jasmine Marie shows us how to embrace slow, hidden growth as part of our healing journey. grab a copy or tune into the audibook as a way to help you slow down with compassion this year.

wishing you a safe and restful holiday season community.

It’s my bookiversary! one year ago today “Black Girls Breathing: Heal from Trauma, Combat Chronic Stress, and Find Your Freedom” was released out in the world!

I will never forget waking up the morning of release date and checking every Barnes & Noble in every city I could think of and seeing that multiple copies of the book was available on shelves! What a rare honor that I am so grateful for.

years of building the movement that is Black Girls Breathing and charting a path for accessible somatic work for our community that I had never seen before me at this scale that came with lots of difficulties and hardship helped create the work in book form.

thousands of copies sold, in over 340 U.S. library systems, and many reviews detailing how BGB the book has been a life-changing read (their words not mine!)

though I feel fulfilled that this work has been so impactful to readers, book sales matter A LOT for a Black author, with an extremely Black book. we have a goal of more books to sale to further state to the publisher and industry with numbers to back up that Black readers appreciate these books!

so please continue to support this project and my work! buy a copy for your sister, cousin, work bestie, any and every Black woman who could use this wisdom! or ensure your local library has it or get them to place an order — that counts too!

i signed 9 copies at Barnes & Noble - Buckhead and 8 copies at Barnes & Noble - Cumberland (in the new and noteworthy section). p.s. not too much on how I hold my pen to write! i’m a proud product of public schooling!

i also grabbed a copy of the latest Essence Mag that i’m currently featured in, what a blessing!

if you’re in the Chicago area, I’m putting signed nameplates and bookmarks in the mail tomorrow for and , both Black-owned bookstores. so make sure to reserve a copy from them ❤️

a special shoutout to the Black-owned bookstores who’ve been so supportive of this project and of me! please shop my book and others at

if you’ve got the book, what’s your favorite chapter thus far?!

feeling deeply doesn't mean drowning in those feelings. we can honor our emotions without letting them take over our entire being.

with everything happening in the world right now, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by all the feelings that may surface. but we can learn to be with our emotions, anger, sadness, fear, hope - without losing ourselves in them. and the most profound way can teach our bodies to witness these emotions is through the breath.

this is the work, sis. learning to stay grounded while still staying open to what we're experiencing.

take a deep breath. you've got this.

i’m featured in the latest issue of Essence magazine (Fall/Winter 2025), on stands now or subscribe for only $18 for 2 years (let’s support black owned publications y’all), where i share wellness tips to help your nervous system prepare for your best year yet. 💛

for print publications, interviews are done months in advance, so when this published it caught me at a personal inflection point where i’m trying to decide how to show up for my own best year yet. the irony, eh?

i spent most of this year managing my mental health. visibility as a black woman often means being subject to harm (more on that later). i thought i’d be running around talking about the resources in my book, but i was already tapped out by the beginning of the year 😅.

nonetheless, a few tips to get your nervous system to a place where it feels safe enough to rest (it’s a practice sis!) are in the article. more resources in my book, “black girls breathing: heal from trauma, combat chronic stress, and find your freedom,” available where all books are sold ❤️ thank you to everyone who has shared how the book has supported them this year.

and here’s a peek at how i’m recalibrating and finding deeper rest and stability right now:

-reading to retrain my brain to focus more (just finished “happy land” by and it was so, so good).

- homemaking for myself. cooking, nesting, baking. the things that bring me joy and deep contentment as a single, 35-year-old woman with no kids.

- writing consistently. aside from our bgb newsletter, i’m launching my personal substack to move past the fear of being perceived and go deep…er. first topic on the last slide. is my Substack if you want to follow along!

after so much disappointment, loss and grief in the past 2.5 years, i am daring to believe 2026 can be my best year yet and i hope you’ll join me in that belief ❤️

thank you for adding my pov to this poignant piece.

being told you're "too sensitive" is often code for "please ignore what you're seeing and feeling so we don't have to deal with it."

your sensitivity is actually your superpower. you're feeling what others refuse to acknowledge. you're seeing what others choose to ignore.

don't let anyone convince you to numb yourself to make their denial easier or for harm to be scapegoated. name it so then we can act.

explore more tools to help you find freedom amongst oppression in "Black Girls Breathing: Heal from Trauma, Combat Chronic Stress, and Find Your Freedom" by Jasmine Marie. available where you buy your books and in your local library.

your anger has something important to say, sis. in a world that tells us to stay quiet and agreeable, our anger often holds the truths we're not supposed to speak.

don't shame yourself for feeling angry about the state of things right now. your anger is information, not something to fix or suppress.
