Sometimes I sit back and think about how Blossom Effect started as just one small idea in my dorm at and now it’s something people all over connect with. What began as me simply wanting to share my love for plants has grown into a community that reminds people to slow down, reconnect with nature, and see growth in themselves, too. 🪴

I’m so grateful for every person who’s believed in this vision, and for the reminder that even the smallest seed can blossom into something bigger than you imagined. 🤍 I love y’all deep

🌱 Announcing our July Blossom Effect Micro Grant Winner: ! 🌱

Where botany meets Black brilliance! Derek Haynes is a scientist, educator, and storyteller who’s transforming how we see plant life and ourselves. Formerly known as The Crazy Botanist, Derek rebranded to The Chocolate Botanist as an ode to his identity.

Through humor, history, and horticulture, he’s inspiring a new generation of plant lovers—and now, he’s taking it to another level.

With support from The Blossom Effect Micro Grant, Derek is launching Seed TV: a streaming platform featuring Black gardeners, botanists, horticulturists, farmers, and overall plant people. 🌿🎥 This grant will help fund the platform’s Vimeo subscription, website relaunch, and foundational costs to bring this powerful vision to life.

We’re honored to support his mission to root science in identity, culture, and community. 💚

🪴 Congratulations To Our Newest Blossom Effect Micro Grant Winner: ! 🪴

Rooted in community, culture, and sustainability, Crazy Plant Bae is more than a plant shop — it’s a movement. Founded in New Orleans, this Black woman-owned brand uses plants as a tool for healing, education, and joyful connection. From creative pop-ups to youth workshops, Crazy Plant Bae is cultivating the next generation of green leaders. 🌱✨

With support from The Blossom Effect Micro Grant, they’ll be launching the Green Bae Youth Lab — a mobile, hands-on workshop series teaching kids (especially in underserved communities) how to grow, care for, and even sell plants with eco-conscious practices.

We’re so proud to support this blossoming vision! 🌱

Happy Juneteenth Y’all! 🪴

We honor the hands that planted seeds in soil they didn’t own. The ones who turned gardens into safe havens. The aunties with green thumbs and big wisdom. The uncles who taught us how to water, when to prune, and how to grow even when the world told us not to.

This day is for the growers. The healers. The ones who turned struggle into soil and made beauty bloom anyway.

I almost didn’t post this because of the big, imperfect leaves 🪴

As a recovering perfectionist — The yellowing, the blemishes made me second guess sharing this moment.

But then I paused and thought…

There are so many beautiful things about this photo (including my fine a$$💁🏾‍♀️). The joy on my face. The person behind the camera that said “take a picture with it!”. The towering leaves. The lush green all around me. The moment.

Perfectionism really is the thief of joy.

It can blind us to everything that is thriving, everything that’s ENOUGH.

So, here’s to celebrating beauty even when it’s not pristine.
To showing up even when things aren’t “just right.” To finding joy in the wild, unfiltered, growing parts of ourselves and our surroundings. 🥂
