What an AMAZING retreat with some amazing, powerful advocates!

Thank you .birth for bringing your skills and training to our corner of the world.

We learned and practiced ( )! Learning to be effective advocates and bridge builders in the birthing world takes practice, feedback, passion, and repetition.

Advocacy is education. Advocacy is NOT not a battle.
Advocacy is communication. Advocacy is NOT being confrontational.
Advocacy is bringing a team together for safer care. Advocacy is NOT stepping back when clients are scared, confused, or coerced.

Better advocacy skills allow clients to feel safe and empowered in their care and bridging the gap of individualized patient-centered care in our high volume system. It allows birthworkers to work for a lifetime without having to standby witnessing acts of coercion or, worse, obstetric violence, and client feeling abandoned by their whole team in those moments. It allows providers to provide high quality care to clients who are prepared to seek the information they need to make decisions and communicate their needs for a safer process all around.

Happy Mother’s Day:

To those who thrive in the role,
To those who struggle in the role,
To those those yearn for the role,
To those who suffer in loss in the role,
To those who feel the loss of their mother,
To dads who serve as both mother and father,
To those whose children did not come from their own bodies,
To those whose children have no genetic similarity,
To those who are in fear for their children’s safety or wellbeing,
To those who put their children in the hands of strangers with only hope to hold,
To those forced into motherhood by a hypocritical, spineless society,
To those of all races, cultures, creeds, religions, and genders,
To those I’ve had the honor of walking alongside on their journey into the role,
To all those who have served that role in any capacity.

I honor you.

Being a mother has been the greatest honor and greatest challenge of my life. I hope to continue to grow in the role and do my best to raise wonderful, considerate, kind, happy, and kind citizens of this Earth.

❤️”birth rehearsal” for our Evidence Based Birth Childbirth class.

I was honored to get to know 5 awesome families over 6 weeks, and this is always such a wonderful culmination of all the learning.

We practiced:

Labor positions
Home comfort measures
How to travel in the car
Triage and advocacy
Hospital comfort measures
Pushing
Immediate newborn period
Alllll the partner support
Communication with healthcare staff
And of course…. The HIP SQUEEZE

Also 🤗 to my@newest mentee for being just amazing helping out and sharing her knowledge.
