Schizophrenia is a severe and often misunderstood mental health condition that affects a person’s ability to think clearly, manage emotions, and relate to others.
Contrary to popular myths:
🚫 Schizophrenia is NOT a “split personality.”
🚫 It does NOT automatically make someone violent or dangerous.
✅ It IS a treatable, chronic disorder—just like diabetes or asthma. Symptoms can include:
🔹 Hallucinations—hearing or seeing things that aren’t there
🔹 Delusions—false, fixed beliefs
🔹 Disorganized thinking or speech
🔹 Flat affect (reduced expression) or withdrawal from relationships
🔹 Trouble with memory or decision-making
Schizophrenia often begins in late teens or early adulthood. While it can be frightening, early intervention, therapy, medication, and strong support systems can dramatically improve outcomes.
Often, people living with schizophrenia can and do lead fulfilling, connected lives—with careers, relationships, and joy.
