It was a privilege for GSO to host Dr. Prasad Nalabothu from the Department of Oral and Craniomaxillofacial Surgery at University Hospital Basel, Switzerland, as a guest lecturer. He provided an insightful overview of Oral and Craniomaxillofacial Surgery and highlighted its important role in orthodontic treatment planning. We are sincerely grateful to Dr. Nalabothu for contributing his expertise and perspective to our academic community.

Dr. Fernanda Libanore, Dr. Christopher Lin, and Dr. Irvin Singh recently attended the Charles H. Tweed International Foundation for Orthodontic Research Study Course in Tucson, Arizona. This highly regarded seven-day intensive program offers an immersive exploration of the historical foundations and biomechanical principles of orthodontics, originally established by Charles H. Tweed and further advanced through the Tweed‑Merrifield philosophy.

The course provided a comprehensive review and consolidation of concepts acquired during residency training, with a strong emphasis on diagnosis, treatment planning, cephalometric analysis, and controlled mechanotherapy. Through a rigorous blend of didactic instruction and hands-on clinical exercises, participants refined essential skills in precision wire bending and anchorage control—cornerstones of predictable, high-quality orthodontic outcomes.

A notable highlight of the experience was its internationally diverse academic environment. The cohort included orthodontists from more than ten countries, creating valuable opportunities for professional exchange, collaboration, and exposure to a wide range of clinical philosophies and perspectives.

Overall, this intellectually enriching experience reinforced strong clinical foundations and closely aligned with evidence-based orthodontic practice, further supporting the doctors’ commitment to clinical excellence and lifelong learning.

The Georgia School of Orthodontics was honored to welcome students from Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry for an immersive educational experience designed to deepen their exposure to orthodontic training. During the visit, students were introduced to GSO’s academic framework, clinical philosophy, and commitment to advancing excellence in orthodontic education.

Their time on campus included meaningful engagement with faculty and third‑year residents, who shared real-time clinical insights and offered perspective on the residency experience. Students also observed patient care within the Atlanta clinic, gaining firsthand understanding of GSO’s comprehensive, patient‑centered approach to orthodontic treatment.

The visit further provided opportunities for connection with current GSO residents, including several Meharry alumni, as well as a conversation with Dr. Lester Jackson, GSO Senior Vice President for External Affairs, reinforcing the shared commitment to cultivating future dental and orthodontic professionals.

GSO values its ongoing partnership with Meharry Medical College and remains dedicated to fostering educational collaborations that support the next generation of leaders in dentistry and orthodontics.

Dr. Sakshi Narayan (Class of 2026), AAO State Resident Captain, and Dr. Mikaelle Williams (Class of 2027) represented orthodontic residents at the 2026 AAO Professional Advocacy Conference, held March 17–18 in Washington, DC.

The conference brought together orthodontic leaders and policymakers for bipartisan discussions on key healthcare issues. Dr. Narayan and Dr. Williams participated in meetings alongside Dr. Ed Davis, AAOPAC Board Chair, with the offices of Representatives Nikema Williams (D-GA), Terri Sewell (D-AL), and Joe Wilson (R-SC). They also attended a meeting hosted by Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA), focusing on orthodontic education, workforce development, and patient access to care.

Georgia School of Orthodontics Honors Congressman John Lewis with Legacy Wall Dedication

Georgia School of Orthodontics proudly hosted the Congressman John Lewis Wall Dedication Ceremony at the Lazzara Orthodontic Center for Research on Monday, March 16, commemorating the life, legacy, scholarship, and enduring impact of Congressman John Lewis.
The newly installed John Lewis Legacy Wall serves as a powerful visual tribute, featuring historic moments from his lifelong commitment to justice, leadership, service, and scholarship.

Some of the historical moments represented in this tribute include The “Two-Minute Warning” on the Edmund Pettus Bridge; The March on Washington; pictures with President Jimmy Carter and His Holiness The Dalai Lama and the Sit-in on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives in support of stricter gun control legislation.

The related website offers an opportunity to learn more about each of the events depicted in these pictures.

The event featured remarks from GSO President Dr. Randy Kluender, who emphasized the importance of service, integrity, and impact in education, as well as Mignon Willis, founding member of the John & Lillian Miles Lewis Foundation, who reflected on preserving Congressman Lewis’s legacy for future generations.

The 2025 John Lewis Legacy Scholarship recipients were also recognized, sharing their commitment to leadership and service in honor of Congressman Lewis’s enduring influence.

The installation stands as a daily reminder to students, faculty, and visitors of the values he championed— justice, fairness, inclusion and respect for the dignity and worth of every human being.
