π The worldβs richest woman, Alice Walton, has launched a groundbreaking new medical school in Bentonville, Arkansas and sheβs making a bold promise: free tuition for the first five graduating classes.
The Alice L. Walton School of Medicine is not your typical medical school. Out of more than 2,000 applicants, only 48 students were accepted, placing it among the most selective programs in the United States. But what truly sets it apart is its mission: to train doctors in whole-person care, emphasizing not just physical health, but also mental well-being, lifestyle medicine, and emotional support.
The campus itself reflects this philosophy, with rooftop gardens, wellness studios, and quiet spaces for reflection, designed to promote a healing environment for both students and future patients. Walton, inspired by her own recovery from a serious car accident, believes that medicine should go beyond treating symptoms it should focus on caring for the whole human being.
By combining free tuition with a radically holistic curriculum, Walton hopes to reshape the way healthcare is taught and practiced. Her vision is not just an act of generosity, but a challenge to the medical establishment: to rethink how doctors are educated and how true healing should happen
