Find the Good, Day 16 - Temporary Beauty

While it’s easy to want beautiful things, like flowers, to last forever, I am actually grateful they don’t.

It’s a reminder to appreciate the good while it’s still good.

It’s a perfect reminder of the impermanence of everything, and the importance of slowing down and noticing things that stir your soul before they fade away.

What is something temporary or fleeting that you want to intentionally notice and enjoy before it fades away?

Find the Good, Day 15

We have lived in the Chicago area for almost 4 years now, and we finally all were healthy and rested enough to make it downtown to see them dye the river green for St. Patrick’s Day.

In case you’re wondering, it is not a sensory friendly experience at all. But I’m not going to dwell on that. Because I’m practicing finding the good! So, I’m celebrating how:
1. noise cancelling headphones 🎧, fidgets 🪀 and electronics 🎮 helped us cope,
2. we managed to get some of our favorite Chicago food 🍩 () and
3. the two of us who really needed it found a sensory safe haven to decompress in while the other two explored the area a bit more.

And now I’m happy ☺️ and relieved 😅 to be heading home in a splurgy ride-share 🚕 rather than waiting for the crowded train home. 😮‍💨

Image descriptions:
Picture 1: Boat spraying a orange liquid into the Chicago river, turning the water a vivid green

Picture 2: Box of 6 donuts from Stan’s donuts, including a chocolate vegan donut, a lemon pistachio donut, three St. Patrick’s Day themed donuts, and a chocolate covered long john (that’s unfortunately lost most of its icing)

Picture 3: Empty train station waiting area that was blissfully empty, quiet, clean, and most importantly, empty.

Find the Good, Day 11 - Happy Memories

This past weekend was so fun, I can and will be celebrating it for days! And, the re-entry into this week has been a little tricky. So another photo post will have to do for today.

I’ve been looking through pictures and videos from this weekend and really marinating in all the goodness. It feels like it was an energetic infusion and by focusing on the happy memories, I’m perpetuating the “high” rather than feeling sad it’s over.

So I’m curious: What’s your favorite way of reliving happy times?

Celebrate the Good, Day 10 - Celebrating Rest & Recovery

Another picture post, because I’m low on energy and executive functioning today. (I knew that was likely to happen with travel, time change, and the come down from so much joy and excitement.)

So today, I’m celebrating rest and recovery. I’m celebrating that I know how to rest and recover, and that I can do it relatively guilt free (at least with far less guilt and shame than I used to feel about it!).

Picture/video descriptions:
(1) Closeup of Sarah resting on a bed, smiling at the camera
(2) Video walk by of the bed, which is hanging from a treehouse in a bamboo thicket (so cool!!!)
(3) Knees poking out of a bath in the foreground, with a bath tray with a lit white candle and an “herbal forest bath soak” packet in the background
