“Early diagnosis and treatment can make a huge difference in many diseases, particularly in diseases like RA [rheumatoid arthritis] or lupus where delays of weeks, let alone months, can lead to significantly worse outcomes.” – Aryeh Abeles, MD

Timely diagnosis is critical for better patient outcomes. Yet many patients face wait times of several months to see a rheumatologist—and some aren’t referred at all unless they advocate for themselves.

Dr. Aryeh Abeles saw this firsthand in his own private practice. Now, through the Foundation’s Community Practice Innovation Award, he's leading research to better understand challenges patients and rheumatology practices face today. His work aims to provide a detailed snapshot of the current practice landscape, track consolidation trends, and inform decisions around workforce planning and patient access.

This research has the potential to improve referral pathways, support independent practices, and help ensure patients are diagnosed and treated earlier.

Today is World Sjögren’s Day! Each year on July 23, organizations and individuals across the world spread awareness of this chronic, autoimmune disease that affects millions. Sjögren’s causes inflammation of the tear and saliva glands, leading to dryness, discomfort, and a wide range of other symptoms that can vary from person to person. Because many effects of the disease are invisible, it’s often misunderstood, even by those close to patients.

The Foundation is proud to support innovative investigators whose research will lead to better treatments and access to care for patients living with diseases such as Sjögren’s. Learn more about the research we fund on our website: https://lnkd.in/dQM7qkP
