National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month🌱

July is a full month to recognize the unique mental health challenges faced by racial and ethnic minority communities. These groups often experience higher rates of mental health disorders like depression and anxiety and yet…

📌they receive less treatment due to barriers like stigma
📌limited access to culturally appropriate care
📌social problems like economic hardship and discrimination.

This month, let’s raise awareness, reduce stigma, and support mental health care for all communities.

New Blog Alert 🚨

When two people decide to separate or divorce, the first question they usually must answer is, “What’s best for the children?” Well, according to the Third International Conference on Shared Parenting, co-sponsored by the National Parents Organization and the International Council on Shared Parenting, children need both parents in their life, no matter how those two adults feel about each other. It is for this reason that most child health experts agree that co-parenting is in the best interests of children of divorce.

The latest research indicates that children of divorce, who have parents who agree to co-parent, can grow up just as well and adjusted as those children from homes where parents had successful marriages. They may actually fair a little better and have a lower divorce rate themselves and be more successful in their careers. Why is this?

1 in 4 people are living with a mental illness—and many are suffering in silence.

Please check in on your friends, your family, your coworkers… even the ones who seem like they’re doing fine.

Burnout, anxiety, and emotional exhaustion aren’t signs of weakness—they’re calls for help, rest, and connection.

You’re not alone. And neither are they. Let’s keep showing up for each other.

Mental Health America’s theme for Mental Health Awareness Month 2025 is ‘Turn Awareness into Action,’ and it couldn’t be more timely.

In our professional lives, we’ve made progress discussing mental health openly, but now it’s time for concrete steps. This could mean:

- Implementing mental health days at your organization
- Training managers in mental health first aid
- Creating clear pathways to resources for employees

As leaders, our actions speak louder than words.

With Love,
Doc 💕

💚 Mental Health Awareness Month 2025 💚

A meaningful life is possible at any age. 🌟

As we grow older, life brings transitions—retirement, health changes, loss, or shifting roles—that can impact mental health. Sometimes these challenges show up in subtle ways:
🔄 Changes in energy or interests
😞 Feeling withdrawn or disconnected

But remember: Help is always available.

👥 Talk to a professional, a family member, or a friend
💬 Open conversations can inspire healing
🌿 Mental health care can boost independence, joy, and social connection

Spending time with older adults creates space for love, support, and meaningful moments. Let's break the stigma and make mental wellness a priority—at every age. 💙

📞 If you or a loved one needs support, call or text 988—available 24/7.

With Love,
Doc 💕

Meet Dr. Smith

I am a board-certified Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) & a Clinically Certified Forensics Counselor (CCSOTS) specializing in individual, family, couples and adult psychotherapy. I am licensed to practice Counseling & Psychology, as a Licensed Professional Counselor in Alabama, Georgia, and North Carolina. For the past 15 years, I have worked with individuals in a variety of capacities as an educator, advocate and Counseling Psychologist. I feel I have leveraged these experiences and, over the past several years, have further developed and employed my expertise as a psychotherapist in private practice. In this time, one thing has remained constant in all of my work – my heart and passion for helping people. My services are provided via Telehealth (Video/Phone) Sessions, allowing you to meet with me from the comfort of your home or any discreet location of your choice. Face to Face (In Office) sessions are also available within Alabama & Georgia. Additionally, concierge services are available for special cases involving Psycho-Legal services, services rendered to children/adolescents & teens, as well as services for high profile clients (including professional athletes).

In my practice, I recognize that each circumstance is unique and therefore will make every effort to understand all aspects of your life in order to deliver a highly personalized treatment plan that maximizes our chances for success together. I work in a collaborative manner to emphasize self-discovery and acceptance as a way to enhance attunement. If you or a member of your family are experiencing difficulty on the job, in your relationships, and are unsure why, it may be time to seek help from a trained mental health professional. I have a strong belief in early intervention; believing that the earlier a problem is identified and addressed, the greater are chances of healthy exploration and lasting recovery. To further expand the positive impact of my work, I've partnered with various schools, universities and medical professionals across the United States. In this capacity, I provide behavioral structure, social-emotional support, professional development and consultations. Finding the right provider is essential to your success in treatment. I will make every attempt possible to provide you with a warm, caring, and supportive environment following a strength based approach to manage and cope with life's challenges. I look forward to working with you, Dr. Teresa L. Quarker Smith "Doc"
