A teenager told me this week that Good Friday should actually be called Black Friday — because it’s dark before the good. 🖤

She’s not wrong.

For those who celebrate Easter, or who are simply curious about the story at the heart of it, the whole arc — Friday to Sunday — is one of the most staggering depictions of something many trauma survivors know intimately:

You can be in the depths of grief and still be inside a story that is moving toward something.

Good Friday holds the suffering. The loss. The darkness. Nothing about it is supposed to feel okay — and the story doesn’t rush past it. It lingers there, in the weight of it.

And yet.

Easter Sunday doesn’t erase what Friday was. The wounds are still there — the Gospel stories are careful to include that detail. What changes is that the suffering is no longer the last word.

That’s the thing about trauma and healing that’s so hard to explain to people who haven’t lived it: hope and pain don’t always arrive in neat sequence. They coexist. You can carry something devastating and still be, somehow, moving toward light.

BOTH/AND.

The darkness was real. The grief was real. The Friday was as black as it gets.

And the Sunday is real too — and the light.

To everyone somewhere in that in-between space this weekend — you are not behind in the story. You might just be in Saturday. 🤍

Sometimes there isn’t time for the why. That comes later — and it matters. But right now, what matters is showing up.

Sanctuary Services is actively responding with gathered clinical support for everyone impacted by yesterday’s tragedy at Temple Israel Synagogue. We are here, we are ready, and we are not leaving.

To our first responders — thank you. Oakland County shows up when it counts, and this is one of those moments none of us ever wanted to be in. And yet, here we are again. Together.

I am so grateful for my colleagues. For a clinical community. For every person who refuses to look away.

To everyone feeling the weight of this — whether you were there, were closeby, knew someone who was, or simply heard the news and felt it land: that is real. Trauma is cumulative. You don’t have to have been in that building to be affected. Resist the urge for trauma comparison. Name what you’re feeling. And reach out.

There is healing to be had — I promise you that, even if you can’t see it yet.

We are all in this together. Every single one of us. 🤍

If you’d like to support our direct trauma therapy response, donations go solely to filling gaps in coverage and care — nothing else.

But if you really love yourself…
Put yourself in therapy.

I made a new candle for the office, thanks to downstairs! 🕯️

Sometimes my patients/clients will schedule a candle making activity following a session or an intensive. 💜

It just adds a bit of relaxation & supports some continued reprocessing at home! 💕

Looking ahead is an act of care 🫶

Trauma-informed training isn’t just a box to check — it’s part of how organizations care for their people before, during, and after hard moments. 💜

Our 2026 training calendar is nearly full. If your organization is hoping to prioritize prevention, preparedness, and healing this year, now is the time to plan intentionally and secure your dates. ✨

I bet you didn’t know I homeschool my kids 1.5 days/week 👀

Between lesson plans, coffee, and real-life conversations, I’m also wearing my favorite Christmas gift — from one of my actual human children 😂🖤

Everyone knows Mabel-the-therapy-dog’s place when she’s off the clock 🐶

Thanks to the for this important read. It’s heavy, & it stretched me in all the right ways. 💜
