Cervical checks CAN be declined, you do not HAVE to consent to them! Now I’m not saying don’t get a cervical check ever, but I am saying you do not have to say yes to every check! 🙌🏼

They really aren’t necessary most of the time anyways, I’ve seen mamas go from a 4 to complete in 2 hours, I’ve seen mamas be at a 4 for a week before even going into labor, they don’t tell you much besides where you are at that point in time 👏🏼👏🏼

“No” is a full sentence 😌

🩸Blood loss after birth🩸

A very common question that comes up around the topic of homebirth is “what if there’s a hemorrhage?” 🫣

First it’s important to note that blood loss after birth is inevitable, there’s going to be blood after every birth. What’s important during that time is how much blood is being lost? If you’re hiring a midwife they will be in charge of tracking the blood loss, they also carry the medications needed to help stop a hemorrhage if necessary. If you’re choosing an alternate route then there’s more education and knowledge needed to know how to prepare for this type of situation because there are various herbs, tinctures, and homeopathy that can be taken as an alternative to the medications that midwives carry (some midwives do carry these alternatives as well).

All of this to say that most hemorrhages can be managed and stopped at home but ultimately the chance of actually hemorrhaging is lower in the homebirth setting because the rate of interventions is lower just by choosing to stay home 🙌🏼🏡

Have you heard of the quietude? 🤫 It usually happens right before the birth of the baby, just after things seemed to be picking up and getting even more intense, this is when everyone expects baby to be here any moment but then labor slows and mama usually drifts in and out of sleep. In the hospital this is considered a stalled labor and pitocin will be pushed to “get things going again” but this way of thinking is all wrong. Births design is not flawed, the quietude was intentionally designed for mamas to have a brief moment before giving birth to have a quick break so she can have the energy to birth her baby 🥹 I’ve seen this many times in the homebirth setting and I never had a name for it until my mentor whapio_and_thematrona taught us about the holistic stages of labor, when I heard it I thought of course! That’s what I’ve been witnessing 🤍
