We’d like to welcome the Texas Occupational Therapy Association - TOTA to our OT Association Partnership Program!

At OT Potential, we are passionate about partnering with OT associations.

We know the advocacy happening in your associations (usually shouldered by volunteers) remains a lifeblood of our profession— and is becoming even more necessary in our rapidly changing world.

As part of our partnership perks, we just launched a dedicated OT Directory page. This will help:

✅ TOTA members find each another
✅ Advocates put faces to the stories they are sharing
✅ Clients find the right OT professional for them!

If you are a TOTA member, lot into your member profile to snag your directory listing!

Find occupational therapy professionals from the great state of Texas! OTs and OTAs featured on this directory are part of the TOTA.

In order to have a thriving profession, we need thriving local OT associations.

That’s why over the past year we’ve been experimenting with different ways OT Potential can support your local advocacy efforts.

After much thought and experimentation, we are launching our OT association affiliate plan! We hope this becomes a revenue stream for your local association—so they can continue their critical work.

Each association will get:
🌍 A map featuring members of their association
👍 Discounts to share with members
🎉 The opportunity to earn commissions when members sign up for OT Potential

We’d love to talk with any decision makers at your local association! Message me to set up a call!

Did you know?

⭐️ If you have a concern about your infant or toddlers development, you are entitled to a free screen by your state’s early intervention program?

⭐️ And, if your child qualifies, certain services should also be covered.

Early intervention services are some of the most important care that we as occupational therapy professionals provide. But, they are underutilized.

That’s why we created this OT in early intervention guide. We want more people to know about this incredible program.

Scroll through to see the questions we answer.

And, if YOU are an early intervention OT, we would love to feature you on our OTs in early intervention map, where you can find the EI OTs around you.

The main finding of recent research from JAMA is extremely promising for early intervention OT professionals.

⭐️ In the study, greater intensity of early intervention service was associated with better functional gains. ⭐️

But, there’s a problem.

Federal spending per child on early intervention services has declined over the past decade. And, in this climate of tightening budgets, most children in the study had:

❌Delayed care, and
❌Low service intensity.

We dive deep into this research, on our most recent OT Potential Podcast episode with Sarah Putt (.4.lyfe).

Here’s the full title of the article:

Timing and Intensity of Early Intervention Service Use and Outcomes Among a Safety-Net Population of Children

We all know has a recognition problem.

But, it won’t be solved by:

• Waiting for big organizations to run the perfect awareness campaigns
• Or waiting for someone to write the perfect definition

Lifting up OT begins with individual OT professionals!

It begins with YOU representing OT in your community.

People need to Google “OT near me” and see your face.

📍 Your clients need to be able to find you.
💪 Your community needs to see the work you are doing.
✅ Our legislators and policymakers need to see the faces of our profession.

I truly believe that people don’t know what OT is, because we have made OT hard to find.

Today, that can change.

We encourage occupational therapy professionals to join the OT directory, and get your work on our brand new OT map.

Whether you’re an:

• Academic
• School based OT
• EI OT
• Acute care OT
• Non-clincal OT
• Or any type of OT!

We need you…because it begins with people seeing OT in their local community, then zooming out to see our globally strong profession.

This week on the podcast, we welcome Kavitha Murthi, MS (OT), OTR, FHEA (UK). She is the lead author on an article that will help you identify the components of strengths-based practice for autistic people.

As you’ll hear, a strengths-based approach is more than the subject of her research. It is a worldview that permeates her life story.

I’m eager to hear your thoughts!

Today we’ll be covering “Strengths-based OT for Autistic Clients.” We’ll look at new research and discuss it with Kavitha Murthi.

This is an episode we all need to sit with.

We begin by reviewing an article on racism and occupation.

Then, I am honored that the hosts of one of my favorite podcasts (The Dr. thOTs Podcast) agreed to takeover the discussion portion. The Dr. thOTs hosts, Khalilah R. Johnson, PhD, MS, OTR/L and Ryan Lavalley are also the authors of the article we review.

Every time I listen to these two they make me laugh, but also expand my thinking.

This episode is no exception.

Today we’ll be covering “Racism and Occupation” We’ll look at new research and discuss it with Ryan and Khalilah.

There is SO MUCH exciting occupational therapy related research coming out.

Last I checked about 1000 articles are published per year!

The downside is it can be overwhelming to keep up.

That’s why each year we create this list of the most-cited OT related research articles.

And, best yet, we systematically work our way through them throughout the year. Each week we give you a quick intro to a particular article in our weekly newsletter.

Join over 20,000 OT practitioners on our mailing lists to stay up to date in 2023 (sign up is embedded in the blog post.)
