The Neck
The neck can be complicated to work on. Understanding the bones and muscles in the neck is imperative to getting a good result. What effects what? What do we need to do as massage therapists to increase movement and decrease pain in your neck? Well, I had a client the other day who had what she referred to as a large knot at the base of the right side of her neck. This tension was in a muscle called trapezius and specifically in upper trapezius. This particular client also has right shoulder issues. I worked with the position of her right shoulder in conjunction with the position of her occiput (the bone at the base of the head) to melt the tension out of the muscle. She said, “wow, just wow, that know has been there for over 2 weeks, and it’s just gone! I love you!”
