There are a few things I’ve come to believe:
1️⃣everything happens for a reason!
2️⃣a mother’s love conquers anything - any challenge, any defeat, any THING!
3️⃣ Follow your intuition when parenting- you know what’s right for your child, just have the confidence to believe yourself!
4️⃣ Doing *something* is better than ignoring or doing nothing to make things better! Don’t get overwhelmed start small
5️⃣ Doing things intentionally will always create a result! Big or small, but always impact!

The way I approach my clients stems from the mom I have become and the person I wish I would’ve had! I was called into motherhood 24 years ago this coming month! I have been through so many hard seasons starting this journey at 16- I have to reflect with you- my new or old friend! I am so grateful and blessed to be this boys mom! My struggle is why I work with other moms to help them through challenges so you don’t feel the failure and guilt I always felt! I work with kids because I’ve learned so much through my sons sensory and academic challenges and from learning about ADHD and how it impacted us!
I speak to you as a seasoned mom, an OT, and a friend- if I had the confidence and mindset I do now so much would’ve gone better for my son. If you feel you’d benefit from help and don’t know where to start connect with me ❤️
Give yourself grace- through it all we grew, we learned, and we still are! It doesn’t end it just changes. The most rewarding role we will ever have! I want to help you feel more confident and prepared to help your child grow in challenges! This was my reason for creating the Mobile OT- to work with you in your home conveniently and cheer you on in challenging times! To build skills, independence, confidence, relationship, and community for future success❤️
I see you. I hear you. “Momming” is hard! You don’t have to do this alone 🥰

How It All Started....

Hello! My name is Melissa, I am the Mobile OT!! I started this journey years ago after seeing Occupational Therapy rehab, while working on my social services degree in 2003! I started my OT training in 2005, leaving my hometown of Sheffield, with my then 5 year old son, to the University of Findlay- to change my life! I was a young mom on a mission; to help others and make a better life for my family. I graduated in 2009 and WOW has Occupational Therapy changed my life! I have been providing a variety of OT services for 10 years. Throughout my journey, I have learned just how important independence with our many “occupations” are to our well being and health through my own challenges, roles, and grievances! As a mom for 19 years to a boy with hidden sensory issues and ADHD, I learned how challenging things like routine, academics, and emotional regulation can be for kids. The mother guilt, the difficult teacher conferences, the shame that I was doing something wrong as others were bragging about their children, the constant fight with a child; is all exhausting. My son taught me so much and I’m thankful for him and what he’s brought to my life. He is especially talented in sports, he is a social butterfly, and he is so caring. I wish I had known and heard about sensory prior to him being almost a teen while I was in OT school! Nevertheless, he is special and he was a challenge, but he has grown to make me proud and overcome so many obstacles while teaching me so much! Through our health journey we learned the importance of holistic approaches for both of us; using supplements, vitamins, diet, alternative health professionals, movement, sports and workouts, and having the right support at school were SO important! I love to share these things I’ve learned with other parents and clients.

This personal experience created a passion in me to help kids learn and do their best at home, school, socially, and in the community. It also has given me a holistic lens when looking at behavior, medical challenges, and sensory issues in clients of all ages. At this time I was working in Rehabilitation clinics and home health. I was very fond of home health and helping people in their homes where things mattered to keeping independence. Soon I saw how much more I could help parents and children function for day to day experiences if I were in their homes.

As I worked more with various students and families, I realized the gap between home and school was something I was very interested in merging! I loved working with moms and connecting with them to see how to better help the students. I started working in homes for the Ohio Virtual Academy and loved seeing students in their natural environment. This continued to grow my desire to help children and families in their homes with whatever was causing them issues, deficits, and limitations in their lives while also supporting the parents. Moms especially need support; ideas of what to use, someone they can vent too, and someone who has been there.

The Mobile OT is the result of all my experiences coming together and the direct need private therapy provides is personalized and convenient care for all ages. I have a passion for finding the pieces to how individuals are “ticking”, a detective of what is hindering them, and how to address it or adapt it. I LOVE working with kids, but honestly in every setting I’ve worked in I just enjoy helping PEOPLE. It is FUN, rewarding, and makes me feel extremely blessed and lucky to be an OT; meeting and helping so many individuals! Currently I am working throughout the west side of Cleveland in schools, in homes, and now privately through the Mobile OT to address needs in the community. I look forward to meeting and talking with you. OT’s are unique and creative with developing skills, advocating for clients, working with families/support systems to educate, provide client centered approaches, and research based interventions for many who are dealing with difficulties. We strive to help our clients live their life to the fullest :) their best life if you will!
