It’s so common for basketball players to run long distances and use “cardio” when training for basketball ... and it’s not going to improve your conditioning for the game you love.

The body has 3 energy systems and each energy system uses a different fuel source. 80% of basketball is played in the first two energy systems. Cardio is solely in the 3rd energy system.

So when you train that way you train your body to be more efficient at utilizing that fuel source than the ones you use during the game.

You are actually making yourself slower.

The plays that matter most in the game of basketball - beating your defender, getting up for rebounds, dunks and blocks, sprinting up the court on a fast break - how do those even look like simple jogging?

They don’t. And they won’t improve you in those movements.

Train for power and improve your capacity over time. That’s how you improve your stamina/endurance/conditioning for basketball. You’ll stay explosive, be more efficient in your workouts and have a lot more fun than simply running for miles and miles.

Important to keep these separate to maximize your training outcomes with each workout.

If you’re not using eccentric‘s in your training you’re missing a lot of gains in strength, hypertrophy, high performance, as well as injury prevention.

These 6 reps would take mostly people 10-12 seconds to finish. This set took about 35 seconds to complete. Time under tension is a very important variable when programming and, when added into the equation with reps and sets, takes your training from 2 dimensional to 3 dimensional.

But I wanted to test out the knee today. I feel slow but very grateful I can move my body .. and grateful to actually do anything with my lower body. Don’t take anything you can do for granted. Be grateful

Get more explosive closer to the season by adding in oly movements to your program. This changes the strength quality of your lifts and will help convert strength into speed - ideal to help you crush your opponent. I prefer adding in regressed versions of lifts like the sn**ch high pull from blocks seen here. But don’t watch my form, check out for better oly vids. **chpull **ch
