Access Vine

Access Vine Working to improve accessibility, promote assistive technology, understanding disability laws, and empowering through consulting and training!

Access Vine, a deaf woman-owned company specializing in providing services for deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing nationwide announced a collaboration with the Texas Health and Human Services (HHSC) Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (ODHHS) to administer the HHSC Region 7 contract providing access and technology services for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. Amanda Tuite came up with the vision of Access Vine several years ago when she realized, "Imagine living in a world where no one knows your language and you must navigate through public challenges such as employment, medical care, public services, and your social life." Access Vine's focus is working with business entities to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities including people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or deafblind. Businesses, individuals, and entities interested in receiving services to ensure communication access and inclusion for the deaf and hard of hearing or late-deafened populations are encouraged to contact Access Vine via our website www.accessvine.co or email us: inquiries@accessvine.co.

My name is Termiea Bowers, and I'm proud to say I'm a true Houstonian, born and raised right here in South Park. I've had the privilege of spending the last 20 years deeply involved in organizations that uplift the Deaf community; a passion that's been the driving force behind my career.

You'll find me actively participating with groups like the Southwest Basketball Association of the Deaf, Houston Black Deaf Advocates, and Camp Sign. I love rolling up my sleeves and getting involved in community engagement and development projects. It’s all about making a positive impact and having a little fun along the way!

Speaking of fun, I've got my own entertainment venture called Deaf United Entertainment. It’s a blast creating events that bring folks together in an accessible and creative way. Nothing beats connecting with the community through shared joy and laughter.

Family is my heart and soul. My two amazing kids, Tierra and Tyler, keep me grounded and smiling every day. I’m known for my sense of humor; if I can make someone laugh, I consider it a day well spent.

I’m all about sharing resources and fostering inclusion within the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community. I can’t wait to collaborate with y’all on initiatives that empower and uplift. Let's make some noise, Houston style!

Hi! I’m Abigail, and I’m proud to be part of the Access Vine team, serving as the Technology Specialist for the Austin and Houston region.

After graduating from the University of Texas, I began my career as a CPS caseworker, advocating for children and families. I then spent five years as an ABA therapist supporting children with autism, followed by several years as an elementary school teacher. Through these experiences, I developed a deep passion for understanding people’s diverse needs and a strong commitment to providing meaningful, individualized support.

As a sibling of Deaf adults, I recognize that every client’s experience is unique. My goal is to listen to your needs and offer personalized resources that improve your life at home, at work, and in your community. I look forward to working with you!

If you have any questions about technology services, you can reach me at abigail@accessvine.co.

This program is funded by the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, under Texas Health and Human Services.

Hi, I’m Karina Saunders, Access Specialist at Access Vine.

I believe communication access is not optional. It matters. I see that every day in my work with Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind individuals.

One of the things I enjoy most about my role is connecting people with real resources that make life easier, more independent, and more accessible. Whether someone needs support, education, or guidance, my goal is to help and make sure no one feels alone in the process.

Outside of Access Vine, I’m a proud wife and mom of four amazing kids, ages 20 to 24. Our home is also full of energy with two Australian Shepherds and one Yorkie. Family time means everything to me.

When I’m not advocating, you will probably find me traveling, crafting, camping, or enjoying the outdoors with the people I love most.

If you would like to connect with me or learn more about advocacy services, feel free to email me at karina@accessvine.co.

This Black History Month, we’re taking time to recognize Black Deaf leaders who helped create access where there was none.

Change didn’t happen on its own.

It happened because people spoke up, pushed forward, and made room for others.

Andrew Foster, often called the Father of Deaf Education in Africa, helped open doors to education for Deaf children across multiple countries.

“Education is the key to unlocking the golden door of freedom.” - Andrew Foster

At Access Vine, this is the work we believe in. Supporting access, equity, and advocacy for Deaf and Hard of Hearing people at every stage of life.

Black history is Deaf history.

Question for you:
Who is a Black Deaf leader that inspires you?
Share their name in the comments. We’d love to learn together.

Enjoy movies without missing a word.

Open captions make films more accessible for Deaf and Hard of Hearing audiences, families, and anyone who prefers to read along.

Many theaters offer open caption showtimes, but they are not always easy to find.
Ask your local theater if open captions are available and when they are scheduled.

Want help finding open caption showtimes near you?
