Access Vine's focus is working with business entities to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities including people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or deafblind. On July 26, 1990, Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law by President George H. W. Bush.

Today marks 35 years of progress toward access, equity, and inclusion.

At Access Vine, we honor what this day represents, the right to participate fully, to be heard, and to belong.

We’re proud to support the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing communities and to keep moving access forward, together.

Accessibility isn’t the exception, it’s the standard.

Disability Pride Month is a time to reflect on identity, access, and belonging.

At Access Vine, we honor the strength, stories, and lived experiences of Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing communities, today and every day.

Access isn’t extra, it’s essential. Everyone deserves to be included.

Thank you to everyone who came out Austin Deaf Club yesterday!
We had a great time learning how to add VRS to Zoom with guidance from Kelsey at Convo and Theo from Sorenson.

Grateful for their support and the knowledge they shared with our community. Accessibility starts with conversations like these, and we’re just getting started.

Stay tuned for the next workshop in the fall.

Presenter Bio: Amanda Tuite is the Co-Founder and CEO of Access Vine, which promotes accessibility for all through workshops and dialogue. The organization offers various services, including Deaf advocacy training and communication access advising. Amanda has extensive experience in the Deaf services sector and is active as a President for Texas School for the Deaf Foundation.

Workshop description: “Do you know where you are going?” is a famous phrase from Alice in Wonderland that suggests you won’t get where you want to be if you don’t know where you are going. One of the best resources that helped Amanda navigate the world of business was the network of Deaf community leaders, colleagues, mentors, teachers, and friends that has built over the years within the hearing and deaf community. Networking is not only about finding a job, a better job or a customer. It’s about creating your personal brand. Who are you? Where are you going? What’s your ‘WHY’? Networking is the adventure that helps you discover yourself and you will have a better idea of where you are going. According to Columbia University Center of Career Education, networking is the process of making connections and building relationships. The rich experience of networking itself can provide you with advice and contacts, which can help you make informed career decisions. Did you know that networking alone can even help you find employment or internships that are not open to the public? Networking can happen anywhere, virtually or in-person. The Forbes publication shows that the best kind of networking is face-to-face networking, which rings true for Deaf professionals and students.

CEU objectives:

• Participants will assess the reasons why they need to maximize their networking abilities and identify their weaknesses and strengths in their interpersonal relationships with colleagues and decision makers.
• Participants will list the do’s and don’ts of networking and be assigned various scenarios and demonstrate on how to network effectively.
• Participants will define the action of networking and identify strategies for networking.
