Being a second-generation Filipina American, Suzara did not have much connection to the islands and her ancestors. In her essay, "Invoking the Ancestors," she reflects on how colonization and her parent's immigration have erased much of her past, making it hard to discern where she belongs.

However, as Suzara climbs Mount Banahaw in the Philippines, she finds understanding in how there is no one truth: there are multiple. There is beauty in the past and the present connections to the land. The blend they make is even more remarkable.

I sat next to this stream at The Farm in Asbury, New Jersey in 1995 when I attended my Standard class at the Tracker School.
A caver friend had loaned me a tattered paperback book, The Tracker. I knew I had to see what this school was about.
It led me to wildernessFusion where I find my passion today, in community on the land, in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. The fog rolls in. The sun comes out. Sometimes it even snows. And the vistas open. The wander continues.
