Dear Relatives,
As we move into season of change 🍁 and gathering, many of us will be coming together today with friends and family to share food, presence, and warmth. This time of year offers a natural pause, a moment to breathe and acknowledge the blessings that weave through our lives!
May we remember that long before colonial history, communities across the world honored this season as the time of harvest, a time to give thanks for the fruits the Earth gave us. Indigenous peoples of this land, and of many lands, lived in deep relationship with the cycles of nature and offered gratitude daily for what the Earth provided. Their traditions of giving thanks did not depend on a holiday…. They were a way of life. Today we stand on their ancestral ground and hold their resilience, their suffering, and their continuing presence in our hearts.
While many today know this time as Thanksgiving, we would also like to invite the knowledge that for many Indigenous families it is a complicated day, woven with both remembrance and grief. Honoring this truth creates room for a deeper kind of gratitude, one that is more coherent, conscious, and connected to the wisdom beneath our feet. Knowledge reminds us of choice, and choice is freedom.
As we gather, may we allow this season to remind us of what truly matters. The gift of community. The blessing of shared meals. The comfort of being held by people we love. The miracle of being alive in a body, on this Earth, in this moment.
And may we remember that gratitude is not meant for one day. It is a daily practice, a way of seeing and relating to life 🤎
May we carry it in our breath, in our choices, and in the way we care for one another and for the Earth!
Blessings Familia, with so much Love Joseph and Maria
