This very important work of early identification of dyslexia and of remediation of written language will outlive us and the job will never be over. The research keeps growing and helps us continue improving as educators. We are perpetual students and teachers to each other. If we live in the hearts of our students as they move on with the skills that we helped them learn, we will never die.

The diagnostic prescriptive teaching that is done in therapy sessions requires that the therapists "know their stuff and also know who they are stuffing" as Torgesen so aptly put it. The multisensory teaching of basic language skills is a complicated endeavor. Oral language, phonemic awareness, alphabet, vocabulary, morphology, phonics, decoding-reading, encoding-spelling, handwriting, reading and writing fluency, reading comprehension, composition, and mathematics are the many areas to master in order to do justice to our students who depend upon us to help them take flight into the joy of lifetime learning.

Learning ignites in emotion, a positive attitude and when a student feels safe and accepted. To instruct by pleasing brings success by reaching not only the minds but also the hearts of our students. To help students reach their fullest potential is the ultimate goal and that is accomplished best with teaching that is research and evidence based, state of the art, and emotionally sound.
