I have been going to the South Austin Walking Group hosted by since I was 2 months postpartum.

It’s been a wonderful experience - from making mom friends to meeting other professionals!

I am SO excited to be joining this time with my pelvic PT hat on to share:
🤰 The changes your pelvic floor undergoes during pregnancy and postpartum
✔️ How you can self-test your pelvic floor health
💪 How to begin pelvic floor exercises

While you have probably heard about the pelvic floor, it’s tough to put snippets from IG posts together to understand how it applies to YOU.

My goal for this discussion is to connect the dots so everyone who attends feels empowered about their pelvic health!

Tag a friend and come walk with us!

Last year I was only a few weeks postpartum when these awards came out. I loved seeing all the birth providers be honored and celebrated!

At 6 months postpartum I was dreaming of how I wanted to run my business, now that I had experienced pregnancy, birth, and recovery first hand.

I remember saying to my husband “there’s these awards for birth providers… it’d be amazing so be nominated.”

Dreams do come true! I’m grateful to be a finalist for the awards this year 😊

If you’ve taken a moment to vote already - THANK YOU!

And congrats to all the nominees; we’re lucky to have so many amazing providers in Austin 👌🏻

From rocket launches to beach days, the best part was seeing Ava with her grandparents and Uncle Luke! So grateful for the time with family and being at the beach 💕

My sweetest Valentine’s 😍💕

Baby girl is 5.5 months and sitting up with a little support! She discovered how to blow raspberries and loves when we sing to her.

Her gummy smiles are 12/10 🥹

Five months have gone by so fast 🥹

Baby girl is growing like crazy, wearing 9 month old clothing already. She’s SO close to rolling. And loves to practice standing up with support!

So long as she gets her milk, she’s happy and chatty!

I love a good meme to bust some myths!

1️⃣ Kegels are just ONE of the many exercises that we use in pelvic floor PT to address your issues. Core, hip, and glute exercises are often just as important, if not more so, for recovery!

2️⃣ Pelvic floor PT requires doing exercises and/or changing habits in order to see progress. And that requires a little bit of time. With your consistency, I expect we will see progress in 3 visits. If we don’t then we will change our plan!

3️⃣ Your OB may have told you to do kegels but did they actually teach you how to do them? And who taught the OB? Pelvic floor PTs are the pelvic floor muscle experts of the medical community! If you haven’t been taught how to do kegels by a pelvic PT then don’t brush these exercises off as ineffective.

4️⃣ Muscles need to be challenged adequately to build endurance and coordination. Most people I see have said they tried kegels but didn’t know how many rep and sets to do… because no one helped them figure out what they needed!

5️⃣ Pelvic floor PT needs to fit into your life. During pregnancy or when recovering postpartum we will work together to create a program that fits your needs and time. Doing in home or virtual visits eliminates time constraints like time off, traffic, or finding a babysitter!

Still wondering if pelvic floor PT is right for you? Let’s hop on a call to talk it through! DM me to set up a time.

It’s National Midwifery Week! 🎉🎉

As a pelvic PT and newly postpartum mom who chose midwives I’m excited to celebrate by sharing what I learned 😄

1️⃣ Midwives attend 12% of births in the US and offer exceptional personalized care for pregnant people in a variety of settings. They work in hospitals, birth centers, and home births meaning you can choose the situation that you feel most comfortable with!

2️⃣ Midwives are the OG birth providers 👏🏻 This means they have wisdom and experience that’s been passed down and I see that as a huge strength because…

3️⃣ They view pregnancy, labor, and birth as a NORMAL experience that you and your body are capable of 🙌🏻

They are less likely to offer unnecessary interventions which impair the birth process. This means better outcomes for the birthing person and baby!

4️⃣ Midwifery is a modern profession, governed by licensing bodies. This means that they have a rigorous training process.

It means that they offer all the safety precautions that you’d get from an OB for a low risk birth. Midwives can stitch you up, manage postpartum hemorrhage, and most importantly they know when it’s time to go to the hospital.

Personally, the care I’ve received from has been the most personalized, holistic 1:1 medical care that I have ever had. It was the first time I spent more than 10 minutes with my provider and didn’t feel rushed!

I loved being able to text and call my midwives when something came up (like puking 7 times over a holiday weekend) and going to weekly prenatal yoga classes led by my midwife

My midwives were there every step of the way as I labored for 4 days (that’s a story for another post 😅) and followed up with home visits which were such a relief in those early days!

In summary - midwives are an option to consider for prenatal care 👌🏻

If you are a midwife, thank you for your work 💗

All pelvic PT offerings are on pause as I’m on maternity leave! 🤱🏼

Our little sweet pea made her big entrance into the world at 10:49 pm on 8.31.23 🎊

She’s now over 10 lbs of chubby cheeked perfection and loves tummy time ☺️💖

I’m looking forward to resuming pelvic PT offerings with the firsthand experience of postpartum recovery. It’s one thing to learn about the fourth trimester and another to be in it!

For the time being, I’ll be soaking in these sweet moments, taking naps where possible, and checking back in as I can!

I get it - you’re curious

We all p*e, p**p, and have s*x. And we all want to know if we’re “normal” down there. So how do you learn about your body? Do you really have a small bladder? Can you be constipated even if you p**p daily? Why does s*x feel good - and more importantly what do you do if it hurts? How do you push a baby out? Or recover from a belly birth (aka C-section)?

We’ll dive into all these questions and more! Hi there, I’m Dr. Monika Stefanowicz, DPT, WCS. If you’re curious, Google the alphabet soup after my last name, but I’ll make it easy for you. I’m a va**na coach! I combine my knowledge of anatomy, movement science, psychology, and coaching to guide & empower women as they improve their health and quality of life.

See, when a woman is empowered to live her truth, to respect & nuture her body she is able to show up fully in whatever roles she takes on. She’s suddenly immune to burnout. She can adapt and grow with new seasons. Imagine if all women lived like this?! That’s the mission behind Lift Laugh Kegel. To support women in spirit, mind, and body so they can live their purpose.
