After a hip replacement, Mike Marlow returned home, but soon after, his home health agency noticed he was struggling to manage everyday tasks. He needed a higher level of care, so he was admitted to Encompass Health, where he received three hours of therapy a day, five days a week. He’s glad he did. “Everyone treats you so kindly,” he said of the staff and his care team. “It's like they are taking care of their own family. At 100 years old, Beatrice Stauber was an active lady! She lived alone, cooked for herself and was very active in her community. After a serious fall, she wanted nothing more than to return to that active lifestyle. Beatrice chose Encompass Health for her inpatient rehabilitation, and at discharge was able to do just that. Her care team got her walking again, and now she is back to attending church and playing cards with her friends!

Following a stroke, Ahmed was admitted to Encompass Health unable to walk. Ahmed left our hospital walking with a rolling walker and independently completing self-care. Kate arrived at Encompass Health for her recovery, and only two days later, her husband Ron joined her. Kate said that they do most things with one another, but this was their first time at inpatient rehabilitation together. They had separate rooms and therapy teams, but they always ate their meals together. They met their goals while supporting each other and even discharged home on the same day. Upon discharge, Ron shared, “This is the place to go if you need rehab. Feels more like a home here.”

Kim Foster was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome and came to Encompass Health to continue her treatment. She was extremely motivated to get her independence back, and worked with physical and occupational therapists to make that happen.

Bob Wilkins enjoyed weightlifting, spending time with his wife, playing with his dog, and driving cars before medical issues left him unable to do the things he loved. He was unsure if he would ever be home with his family again.

When Bob arrived at Encompass Health, his main goal was to return home. This meant walking on his own again and independently navigating a flight of stairs in his home. During his stay, Bob made significant gains, and was able to meet his goals of walking and climbing stairs. Congratulations, Bob!

Michael Murphy came to Encompass Health after receiving his new prosthetic, and during his training sessions he learned how to correctly walk with his new prosthetic through gait training, stretching, adjustments where needed, and much more.

When discussing his progress, Michael shared, "The people are absolutely wonderful. They take time to know who you are, people who I don't even know, call me by name and know who I am. There is nowhere else I would rather be."
