Welcome to the Homeskillet page, providing you with real food recipes and all sorts of information on how to integrate nourishing and sustainable foods into your everyday life. Often these are recipes influenced by what our ancestors ate and are made from nutrient-dense, farm-fresh ingredients. I'm inspired by the flavors and health benefits of fresh organic veggies and fruits, healthy fats like grass-fed butter, coconut oil and olive oil, raw milk and dairy foods, grass-fed beef and pasture-raised meats and eggs, sustainable fish, healing bone broth, medicinal herbs and spices, probiotic foods like sauerkraut and yogurt, unprocessed sweeteners like honey and maple syrup, and for people who can tolerate it, certain whole grains that are made more nutritious by soaking, sprouting or prepared with a sourdough starter - to name a few! I'm hugely enthusiastic about growing and foraging our own food, maybe even raising backyard chickens as incredible way to eat well, but I know that's not for everyone. Luckily we have more and more local farmers and maybe even artisan butchers and food producers to help us out, and we can do our best to get real food from other sources. It may take a little extra time but finding the best ingredients and cooking good food is worth it for our health and happiness. So, once we find a rhythm that works, it becomes possible—and fun—to share homemade, nourishing meals with the ones we love. Some people have significant challenges in their lives and find support from the healing properties of real, whole food ingredients. Most of us just feel our best when we eat fresh food that suits our unique bodies and how we operate. Cooking and savoring real food really does feel good!
