UPDATE: We have some testimony lined up, and can probably accept written testimony until about 7am. That leaves registering support and contacting committee members. Some details have been added below to help you register if you get to the Capitol.
**** If you've ever: pumped at work for a supportive employer, pumped at work for an unsupportive employer, or had an incident where you were asked to stop breastfeeding in public, we want to hear from you!! ****
Tomorrow, our three House bills will have a hearing in the Business and Industry Committee. We need: people to testify, written testimony to submit, people to register their support on tablets at the Capitol, and a few legislators to be called or at least tweeted/emailed. Details are below. Your involvement could make all the difference.
Testify
~Testify at the hearing, which should be from 11-2. Email us if interested at txbfleg@gmail.com. Details for getting around the Capitol can be found at txbfleg.com
Submit Written Testimony
~Submit (and ask the same of women you know) stories of nursing in public incidents and of support or lack thereof to pump at work to txbfleg@gmail.com. We want to provide a significant amount of written testimony.
Register Support
~If you can be at the Capitol on the 6th, probably anytime from from 10am-2pm, you can register your support just by filling in your info on a tablet.
Register for HB 742, HB 443, & HB 329 on your own iPad or one at a kiosk at the Capitol near the hearing room. Everything you need to know for that process is here: https://www.mytxlegis.legis.state.tx.us/hwrspublic/about.aspx
Photos
~Send photos of lactation spaces - especially ones that are less than ideal, such as a curtained-off area or a supply closet - but that are at *least* not next to a toilet, to illustrate that solutions can be found, other than single-user restrooms, even when situations aren't ideal.
Phone Calls (or Tweets/Emails)
~We have a lot of support in the Business and Industry Committee, but there are a few legislators we need to contact. Phone Calls carry more weight and are fast and painless, but in lieu of that, emails and tweets would be terrific. All you really need to say is that you want them to support the breastfeeding bills they hear in committee on Monday. Want more details? Check out our website's lege pages at txbfleg.com.
