Dr. Xiaotian Shen has been my main go to clinical supervisor at the AOMA clinics North since starting my clinical training at AOMA. He has been with AOMA since 1999. He has helped train me in his specialties with pain management, neurological disorders, neuropathy, long haul covid recovery, digestive health, emotional/mental health, internal medicine, and allergies. I tried to get him to smile here, not much luck 😆. He has been an amazing clinic supervisor to me. Dr. Shen also worked as a medical doctor and doctor of traditional Chinese medicine in China and Israel before coming to AOMA here in Austin, Texas. He is now a good friend and colleague, thank you Dr.Shen for all you have taught me 🙏🏼😊

A master's degree in Acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine is not for the faint. It is a 4 year intensive full time program that required thousands of hours of didactic and clinician training. Thereafter, in order to be eligible to become a licensed Acupuncturist, most States require passing the NCCAOM board exams that include up to 4 independent exams. Once passing all of those exams you are considered board certified and can then submit these certifications to your State in order to continue the application for licensing to practice acupuncture and traditional Asian medicine.

There are hundreds of points that need to be studied for the location, indications, and use for treatment.
Many of the points you see here can be used independently, but often are used in combination with other points that would be put together as a point prescription. The point prescription is often a holistic approach but also evidence based practice, that comes down to the educated discretion of the clinician. This is where education, experience, skills play a role and can differ from clinician to clinician. This is also what makes it a healing art, the techniques and foundations are essentially the same, but the way it is expressed comes out uniquely expressed from the practitioner, the clinician, the healer.

I believe there is a practitioner for everyone. If you have any questions on how best to go about looking for a Licensed Acupuncturist or practitioner of Asian medicine in your area. Please do not hesitate to send me a DM.

These 5 traditional Chinese herbs 🌿 composes a formula called Dang Gui San, also called Tangkuie formula.

The original source comes from the classic textbook Jin Gui Yao Lue (Essentials from the Golden Cabinet) by Dr. Zhang Zhong-Jing in the Eastern Han Dynasty. 💫

The following herbs composes this formula:
Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis)
Bai Shao (Radix Paeoniae Alba)
Huang Qin (Radix Scutellariae)
Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Astractylodis Macrocephalae)

Preparation required to take the raw herbs and grind them down into fine powder. Which can be fulfilled herbal medicine stores.

The Chinese Therapeutic Actions include: nourishing the blood, and stabilizing pregnancy.

Clinical Manifestations include the following:
•History of habitual miscarriage
•Unstable pregnancy
•Difficult labor
•Postpartum weakness and anemia

Clinically this formula helps to stabilize pregnancy and to help prevent early labor and miscarriages. It can also be used to help treat postpartum disorders.

The main TCM diagnosis to use this formula is blood deficiency during pregnancy.
