Austin Senior Living

Austin Senior Living We offer an alternative living option for seniors that are looking for a home environment. Welcome to Austin Senior Living.

Our amenities include 24-hour assistance for activities of daily living, fully furnished private rooms and much more. We decided to open this home so seniors can have an alternative living experience in a home atmosphere with 24-hour care. What led us to this adventure you might ask? As the owner/manager, I have worked in long-term care for many years. Some positions that I held are Social Services Director, Marketing Director, Admission Director, and long-term care medicaid. I have also worked for Elder Law Attorneys as an Elder Care Coordinator. I am passionate about advocating for Seniors. I know firsthand how hard the decision can be to find placement for your loved one. My husband and I have cared for my father-in-law after his health declined which led to him being unable to live alone. As most care givers know, it became difficult to provide the care he needed while we both still work, which led us to placing him in a long-term care facility. That experience led me to creating this home for him and other seniors. Having worked in long term care for years, I know the challenges they face. I wanted to create an environment for seniors in which they had more individualized care that didn't make them feel institutionalized. Each of our residents will have a private, fully furnished room. We will prepare all meals and serve them home style. Our home offers an on-call nurse, medication management, security system (interior/exterior), laundry services, care conference with clients and families, 24- hour care, and assistance with activities of daily living. If you are in the position of looking for living options for your loved one, please reach out to us. We would love the opportunity to speak with you about our services and placement options. We also offer tours for our home and would love for you to see it in person. You can reach us at 501-605-6269 or email us at austinluxear@gmail.com.

🎃👻 Tipful Tuesday: A “Spooktacular” Week of Safety & Fun! 🕸️🧡

Halloween isn’t just for kids — our residents love to join in the fun too! This week’s Tipful Tuesday is all about keeping the spirit of Halloween safe and sweet!

🕯️ 1. Keep walkways well-lit.
Decorations are fun, but make sure paths are clear to prevent trips and falls.

🎭 2. Dress for comfort.
Costumes are a blast — just make sure they’re easy to move in and don’t obstruct vision.

🍬 3. Choose smart treats.
Soft candies or sugar-free options are great for seniors who want to enjoy a little Halloween sweetness.

🎃 4. Join in the fun!
Pumpkin carving, costume contests, and sharing spooky stories bring everyone together for laughter and memories.

At Austin Senior Living, we believe in celebrating every season — safely, joyfully, and together! 💜

🍂 Tipful Tuesday 🍂

As the days get shorter and colder, many seniors may experience Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), also known as seasonal depression. It’s more than just the “winter blues” — it can impact mood, sleep, appetite, and overall health.

💡 Tips for families & caregivers:

🌞 Encourage outdoor time during daylight hours
💡 Keep rooms bright with natural light or safe lamps
🤝 Promote social activities to reduce isolation
🩺 Watch for changes in sleep, appetite, or energy levels

A little awareness and support can go a long way in helping seniors feel their best during the cooler months. 💛

⚕️ September is Sepsis Awareness Month 🩺

At Austin Senior Living, resident health and safety are always our top priority. 💚

Sepsis is the body’s extreme response to infection. It often develops as a secondary complication from a primary infection like a wound, urinary tract infection (UTI), or pneumonia. Seniors are especially more susceptible, making awareness and quick action essential.

⚠️ Recognizing the warning signs early can save lives. Remember T.I.M.E.:

T – Temperature (high or low)

I – Infection (symptoms/signs present)

M – Mental Decline (confusion, sleepiness)

E – Extremely Ill (severe pain, shortness of breath)

By staying informed and alert, we can work together to protect our loved ones and provide the highest level of care. 🏡❤️

🌟 Tipful Tuesday at Austin Senior Living 🌟

Today’s topic: Pressure Ulcers (Bedsores) in Seniors

Pressure ulcers, often called bedsores, are injuries to the skin and underlying tissue caused by prolonged pressure on the skin. They are common in older adults with limited mobility, but with awareness and prevention, they can often be avoided.

✅ Where They Occur Most Often:

Heels

Hips

Tailbone

Elbows & shoulders

✅ Risk Factors:

Limited mobility (bed or chair bound)

Poor circulation

Incontinence (moisture on the skin)

Poor nutrition and hydration

✅ Prevention Tips for Families & Caregivers:

Reposition seniors every 1–2 hours to relieve pressure

Use cushions or pillows to reduce skin friction

Keep skin clean and dry

Encourage a balanced diet rich in protein and hydration

Regularly check skin for redness or sores

Early detection is key—if you notice any skin changes, talk with a healthcare professional right away. 💙

At Austin Senior Living, our compassionate staff is trained to monitor and prevent these issues, ensuring our residents stay comfortable, safe, and well cared for.
