Austin Senior Living

Austin Senior Living We offer an alternative living option for seniors that are looking for a home environment. Welcome to Austin Senior Living.

Our amenities include 24-hour assistance for activities of daily living, fully furnished private rooms and much more. We decided to open this home so seniors can have an alternative living experience in a home atmosphere with 24-hour care. What led us to this adventure you might ask? As the owner/manager, I have worked in long-term care for many years. Some positions that I held are Social Services Director, Marketing Director, Admission Director, and long-term care medicaid. I have also worked for Elder Law Attorneys as an Elder Care Coordinator. I am passionate about advocating for Seniors. I know firsthand how hard the decision can be to find placement for your loved one. My husband and I have cared for my father-in-law after his health declined which led to him being unable to live alone. As most care givers know, it became difficult to provide the care he needed while we both still work, which led us to placing him in a long-term care facility. That experience led me to creating this home for him and other seniors. Having worked in long term care for years, I know the challenges they face. I wanted to create an environment for seniors in which they had more individualized care that didn't make them feel institutionalized. Each of our residents will have a private, fully furnished room. We will prepare all meals and serve them home style. Our home offers an on-call nurse, medication management, security system (interior/exterior), laundry services, care conference with clients and families, 24- hour care, and assistance with activities of daily living. If you are in the position of looking for living options for your loved one, please reach out to us. We would love the opportunity to speak with you about our services and placement options. We also offer tours for our home and would love for you to see it in person. You can reach us at 501-605-6269 or email us at austinluxear@gmail.com.

⚕️ September is Sepsis Awareness Month 🩺

At Austin Senior Living, resident health and safety are always our top priority. 💚

Sepsis is the body’s extreme response to infection. It often develops as a secondary complication from a primary infection like a wound, urinary tract infection (UTI), or pneumonia. Seniors are especially more susceptible, making awareness and quick action essential.

⚠️ Recognizing the warning signs early can save lives. Remember T.I.M.E.:

T – Temperature (high or low)

I – Infection (symptoms/signs present)

M – Mental Decline (confusion, sleepiness)

E – Extremely Ill (severe pain, shortness of breath)

By staying informed and alert, we can work together to protect our loved ones and provide the highest level of care. 🏡❤️

Today’s topic: Pressure Ulcers (Bedsores) in Seniors

Pressure ulcers, often called bedsores, are injuries to the skin and underlying tissue caused by prolonged pressure on the skin. They are common in older adults with limited mobility, but with awareness and prevention, they can often be avoided.

✅ Where They Occur Most Often:

Heels

Hips

Tailbone

Elbows & shoulders

✅ Risk Factors:

Limited mobility (bed or chair bound)

Poor circulation

Incontinence (moisture on the skin)

Poor nutrition and hydration

✅ Prevention Tips for Families & Caregivers:

Reposition seniors every 1–2 hours to relieve pressure

Use cushions or pillows to reduce skin friction

Keep skin clean and dry

Encourage a balanced diet rich in protein and hydration

Regularly check skin for redness or sores

Early detection is key—if you notice any skin changes, talk with a healthcare professional right away. 💙

At Austin Senior Living, our compassionate staff is trained to monitor and prevent these issues, ensuring our residents stay comfortable, safe, and well cared for.

🍁 Fall is in the air at Austin Senior Living! 🍂✨
We’ve started decorating the home for the season and it’s feeling extra cozy. Today the house smelled amazing with a homemade apple cobbler, and the crockpot is already working on tonight’s dinner—chicken, potatoes, and green beans. 🥧🍗🥔

After full bellies and a little rest, our residents are enjoying vintage 1930’s music with a warm fireplace glow and a fall scene on the screen. 🧡🍂🔥

Every day is about comfort, joy, and togetherness here at Austin Senior Living. 🏡

🌟 Tipful Tuesday with Austin Senior Living 🌟

Topic: Recognizing the Signs of a UTI in Seniors

Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) are a common health concern for older adults, but they don’t always appear with the same symptoms you might expect. While younger adults often experience burning or discomfort when urinating, seniors may show very different signs, which can sometimes be mistaken for other health issues.

🔎 Common Signs of a UTI in Seniors:

•Sudden confusion or changes in mental status

•Increased agitation, irritability, or restlessness

•Fatigue, weakness, or difficulty with balance

•Changes in urination (frequency, urgency, strong odor, or dark urine)

•Fever or chills (though not always present in older adults)

📌 Why This Matters:
Left untreated, a UTI can spread quickly and lead to serious complications such as kidney infections or sepsis. Early recognition and treatment are key to protecting your loved one’s health.

💧 Prevention Tips for Caregivers:

•Encourage your loved one to drink plenty of fluids, especially water

•Promote good hygiene and routine bathing

•Ensure regular bathroom breaks to avoid holding urine for long periods

•Support a balanced diet with fiber to prevent constipation, which can contribute to UTIs

•Encourage comfortable, breathable clothing to reduce irritation

👩‍⚕️ When to Reach Out:
If you notice sudden changes in mood, memory, or physical health, it’s always best to consult a healthcare professional. Catching a UTI early can make all the difference in recovery and overall well-being.

At Austin Senior Living, we believe knowledge is one of the best tools families and caregivers can have. Together, we can keep seniors healthy, safe, and thriving. ❤️

💡 Tipful Tuesday: Understanding Caregiver Burnout 💡

Caring for a loved one is one of the most selfless acts you can do — but it can also take a toll on your own health and well-being. ❤️‍🩹

What is Caregiver Burnout?
It’s a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion caused by the ongoing stress of caregiving. You might feel overwhelmed, drained, or even detached from the person you care for.

Signs to Watch For:
⚠ Constant fatigue or trouble sleeping
⚠ Irritability or mood swings
⚠ Loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed
⚠ Feeling hopeless or helpless

When & How to Seek Help:
If stress is affecting your health, your relationships, or your ability to provide care, it’s time to reach out.

Options for Support:
✅ Respite care – short-term relief so you can rest and recharge
✅ Support groups – connect with others who understand your journey
✅ Professional caregivers – in-home or assisted living support
✅ Family & friends – don’t hesitate to ask for specific help

Remember: Taking care of yourself is not selfish — it’s essential for providing the best care for your loved one. 💛
