Having Anna as my doula was an an absolute gift. She has a warm and caring personality which is evidenced by her deep and genuine concern for mother and baby, and her desire for us to have the best birth experience possible. She invested not only in me but in our family as a whole, and went above and beyond to build relationship with us before baby arrived, and has continued to reach out in the weeks after.

She made it clear from the outset what her understanding of a doula was and I found that extremely helpful in allaying any hesitancy I had about having a ‘stranger’ at my birth. Her perspective was one I immediately connected with and I knew she appreciated and valued the sacredness and intimacy of birth as much as I did. This gave me confidence that she would be our advocate and would guard and protect the experience as a whole. I also found a great peace in knowing that her strong Catholic faith meant she would support myself and baby not just physically and emotionally, but prayerfully too.

As a fellow home birth mother herself, I loved hearing her own stories and positive outlook.

In the weeks prior to birth Anna was always available to answer questions and chat about expectations and hopes for when labor began. She was entirely open to our suggestions and direction which made us feel very comfortable and relaxed.

Anna’s presence during the birth was gentle and not intrusive or overbearing. She was able to comfortably go between being hands-on and involved or having a more subtle role in the background offering moral support, depending on what I felt was needed at the time. She took her cues from myself and my husband and I really valued her calming presence and voice as she offered words of encouragement and positive affirmations throughout, which were really comforting.

Anna was happy to serve me and my family in any capacity, and after the birth she was so helpful in practical ways like making sure I had food and hydration, keeping an eye on our other children, aiding the midwives in cleaning up and even taking candid pictures to document the event! She really shared our joy in welcoming our baby and I was so grateful she was there.

A new page for a fresh start and a new name - New Life Doula!

Moving to Florida has brought many changes, and one that I'm especially excited about is developing my practice as a certified childbirth doula and a breastfeeding counselor. I am a mum of seven, and have more than 20 years of experience as a breastfeeding counselor. One of my greatest joys is helping mothers prepare for and experience the birth of their babies and adjust to new motherhood.

I am delighted to be offering my services again and I look forward to hearing from you!

PS Photo taken in the Cuillin Mountains on the Isle of Skye in Scotland while visiting family this past summer. Sometimes labour can feel like scaling one of these mountains and at some point in practically every labour, a mother feels she just cant do it. The amazing thing is she CAN and with the right support she DOES and feels FANTASTIC afterwards.
