Each of my eye pillows tells a story. ⁣⠀⁣⠀
They tell the story of plants and the alchemy that comes from patiently coaxing their hues into dye. Each cast of color is unique, subtly varied yet always beautiful. ⁣⠀⁣⠀
They tell the story of me as a maker and the healing that happens in the present moment. These eye pillows are as therapeutic to make as they are to use. ⁣⠀⁣⠀
They also tell the story of hope, of compassion and the invitation to drop into restorative rest. ⁣⠀⁣⠀
My struggle with PPD was the catalyst for a wellness journey that has changed my life. The mission of Manawa Wellness and the eye pillows in my shop are to support other women and their families. Not only by selling lovingly handmade products but by donating a portion of each sale to the organization, Postpartum Support International.⁣⠀⁣⠀

"I DON'T GARDEN" & OTHER STORIES WE TELL OURSELVES//⁣

I've read the books and studies and know all the reasons why gardening and getting out into the dirt has been proven beneficial. I admire those with a green thumb (my mother!) and daydream about English Roses ( is my love language). ⁣
_⁣
Yet, I resist the act of gardening. ⁣
_⁣
Today that changed. I went in with a playful attitude and focused on the experience rather than the result. The sun warmed my back, birds were chirping, it smelled of fresh rain. I connected with my senses and it changed everything.⁣
_⁣
Do you have a story you tell yourself about something wellness related? A class? Meditation? Vegetables? If the story isn't serving you maybe it's time to try again...⁣

This hack is too good not to share... save your celebratory corks from whiskey or champagne then add a few drops of lavender and/or cedarwood essential oil then add to clothing in storage.⁣

Clothes stay fresh and moth-free and you enjoy the incredible calming aroma of these beneficial oils. Win-win.⁣

They were on to something with the old adage, stop and smell the roses. ⁣

Our senses receive a barrage of input throughout the day. Especially as mamas, we can feel overwhelmed with the care of little people on our sensory organs.⁣
_⁣
It only takes SECONDS, to use your sense of smell to have your brain respond with a cascade of supportive actions. That's why the science of aromatherapy is such a powerful tool.⁣
_⁣
When you need a reset, stop and smell the roses (or essential oils). My favorite 5 second pick-me-up lately is adding a few drops of bergamot to my hands, rubbing together and taking a deep inhale.⁣

It's simple really. And yet groundbreaking in it's positive cascade of effects. ⁣

Through our senses, we are able to create highly personal, intuitive and enjoyable ways be on our wellness journey-NOW.

SO many mamas I know (myself included) write off doing all the things I'm 'supposed to do' on the days when I'm exhausted. ⁣
_⁣
What if we flipped our focus and instead looked for beauty, really tasted our food, enjoyed the sound of laughter or silence, moved our body in a way that feels good and let aromatherapy support us?⁣

It's sense-uality.⁣

Isn't it crazy how a few moments of quiet, calm reflection as a Mom can feel like a vacation? ⁣

I used to go from work to drinks to dinner and never need a break. Now, I crave introspection and quiet as a necessary to recalibrate.⁣
_⁣
It's the ultimate form of self-compassion to give myself time to think my thoughts, to be quiet and to listen. It's a practice that yoga has helped me with tremendously, but it's absolutely a practice. ⁣
_⁣
Sometimes it is easier to watch TV, to scroll mindlessly or tune out, but the rewards of reconnecting with self always make the effort worth it. ⁣
_⁣
If you're just starting a meditation practice or wanting to find more quiet in your life, don't give up! It's so worth it. Give yourself the gift!⁣
_⁣
