This new systematic review and meta-analysis of 23 randomised controlled trials demonstrated that Sensory Integration Therapy (SIT) leads to meaningful improvements in distal outcomes, such as daily functioning and individualised goal attainment, as well as in proximal outcomes related to motor skills. Overall, the synthesis of high-quality evidence suggests that SIT has beneficial effects on motor domains and facilitates greater participation in everyday activities.

Some children are not “misbehaving”. They are overwhelmed.

When a child suddenly starts shouting, refusing, hitting, or shutting down, it can look like defiance. But often it is the brain under stress. In that moment, they are not choosing to be difficult. They are struggling to cope.

As stress rises, the thinking part of the brain switches off. That is why reasoning, consequences, or telling them to calm down does not work. The more overwhelmed they feel, the less able they are to listen, think, or control their behaviour.

What helps is not more pressure. It is less. Fewer demands. A calm adult. Simple words. Space. Safety.

Children borrow calm from us. And when we meet stress with calm, we give them a way back.

Some children are not “bad at maths”. They are trying to make sense of something their brain processes differently.

Dyscalculia is often missed or misunderstood. A child may struggle to tell which number is bigger, forget simple maths facts, lose track of steps, or find everyday tasks like telling the time or handling money overwhelming. With pressure, they can shut down, avoid learning, or become anxious and frustrated.

This is not laziness. It is not low intelligence. Many children with dyscalculia are capable, creative, and strong in other areas - they just need maths taught in a different way.

What makes the biggest difference is how adults respond. Slowing things down, using real-life examples, reducing pressure, and focusing on effort instead of speed can help a child feel safe enough to keep trying. Early understanding can protect confidence and prevent long-term anxiety around learning.

When a child says “I just do not get it”, it is often a sign they need support, not more pressure.

Free WHAT A CHILD NEEDS BEFORE THEIR BEHAVIOUR CAN CHANGE - POSTER

Children do not change their behaviour just because they are told to behave better. They change when they feel safe, understood and supported.

This poster gently explains what children need before behaviour can change. It focuses on safety, connection, felt understanding, predictable routines, realistic expectations and adult support with emotional regulation. It is a helpful reminder that children cannot calm down on command and that behaviour often improves when adults change the environment around the child.
