Got to get the caviletti rails outside today instead of cramped in the living room. The weakness in the hamstrings makes bending the stifle (knee) difficult, resulting in a toe drag. Using caviletti rails allows you to adjust the height of the step, slowing building hamstrings strength. Only 2 weeks into therapy and Boss is already on the second level!

This is Bosco. He is my first patient and the reason I got into canine rehab. With 2 ruptured CCL (first when he was just a pup and not diagnosis until much later) Bosco has had good and bad days most his life. Until a few years ago when his bad days outnumbered the good
Scheduled for the first of 2 TPLO surgeries, the day of suegery he wasn't lame on either side and we didn't know which leg to do first. That, coupled with he very real thought that his vet bill might outlive him I started looking at rehab as an option.
Being a human physical therapist assistant, I put together a program and a couple of weeks later, he was better. With good results, I found a course and started the certification process. We are 2 years out from classes, and Bosco is starting to slow down again.
Follow along with us as we go through his program.

Well we got some good news and some bad news.
No surgery for Lurch! However, we are dealing with some nasty arthritis in both elbows (left is worse). We are officially on a diet and taking joint supplements. Working on getting to a rehab in Boise that has access to a class 4 laser then we will design a gentle exercise program for.the long haul. We've been wanting a laser to travel with the clinic. This is the perfect excuse to get one after we see how bubs responds to it. We have ourselves a journey ahead of us!
dogs carry 60% of their weight in their front legs. This is why it is so important for Lurch to lose weight to decrease stress on the joints.

Our boys are feeling the cold weather lately! So happy we have a Big Barker bed to help them out! Invest in your fur babies guys, you won't regret it! We've had this same bed for almost 6 years and it's in just as good shape as the day we got it!

If you're thinking about TPLO you should be thinking about rehab for faster healing and less pain

If you're thinking about TPLO you should be thinking about rehab for faster healing and less pain

The TPLO (tibial plateau leveling osteotomy) procedure is the GOLD standard for cruciate tears! Don’t be scared about post-surgery. I’ve treated hundreds (maybe thousands?) of these post-TPLO dogs, starting typically day 1 post-op and they handle it so well.

Doing physical therapy early (literally day 1 post-op with the help of a physical therapist) drastically reduces the post-op pain and leads to better outcomes.

The dogs’ knees tend to feel better just ONE week post surgery than they did prior to surgery. TPLOs are THAT good! Two thumbs up from me. 👍❤️👍

Did you know that dogs carry 60% of their body weight in their front legs? This allows them to compensate for hip and knee pain without their owners knowing. Prolonged compensation for hind limb pain can lead to muscle atrophy. You can see that in Boss with his narrow stance and his knees turning out.
