The processed remains, often referred to as cremated remains or ashes, are placed in a temporary container, such as an urn, or in an urn chosen by the family. The family can then decide to keep the ashes at home, bury them, scatter them in a meaningful location, or choose alternative options such as turning them into memorial jewelry or incorporating them into other commemorative items.
