On a cold, rainy fall day, there is nothing better than curling up with a movie, drinking some hot chocolate, catching up with your favorite phlebotomists, and getting cozy with a soft Houchin fleece blanket.

These two aren’t chasing praise... but we're going to praise them anyway!

These two show up, time after time, to give cancer patients, surgery patients, and trauma survivors a fighting chance. Together, they’ve donated 700 units of platelets!

Their dedication rewards itself. For every person in our community that has the chance to do more because they gave, we thank you!

As the holiday season settles in, that golden time when we all slow down, breathe deep, and remember what truly matters, we find ourselves thinking back to our Donor Appreciation Dinner with so much gratitude.

Our platelet donors are the beating heart of this mission. They give not just blood, but time, comfort, and hope, the kind of hope that quietly changes someone’s tomorrow. This dinner exists because they exist, and honoring them each year is one of the most important things we do.

To our staff: thank you for the hustle, the heart, and the behind-the-scenes magic that keeps this life-saving work moving forward.
To our guest speakers and volunteers: your voices and your presence lifted the room.

And to our sponsors — AGM Community Partners, KGET 17, Dignity Health Medical Network, and The Bakersfield Californian — your support makes this event possible year after year. Your partnership helps us celebrate donors, inspire future platelet heroes, and strengthen the community we serve.

Here for our friends, our sisters, our people. 💗

Hot Pink Celebration with Links for Life was such an incredible way to honor those in our community who have been affected by breast cancer. Survivors, family, donors, and the crew who show up year after year to keep care 100% local. From free screenings and the mobile 3D mammo unit, to the wig boutique, this is Kern County loving Kern County.

We’re proud to be part of this circle. Blood and platelet donors are in it too; they are the quiet heroes who help cancer patients through chemo, surgeries, and the tough days in between. If you love this community like we do, roll up a sleeve and stand with the women we love. 💞

Only volunteer donors can provide blood, platelets and plasma for transfusion to patients in need. Our caring staff will take good care of you, and donation takes about an hour the first time. We are always looking for new donors, and love to see returning donors as well. People live when people give at Houchin Community Blood Bank!
