2026 marks 75 years of Houchin Community Blood Bank serving Kern County—and we didn’t get here alone. Every unit of blood, every platelet donation, every person who rolled up a sleeve has written a line in our story.

Ending the year the way we want to start the next one: with service. ✨

This past month we celebrated the Grand Opening of Bakersfield’s first-ever Light the World Giving Machines, and Houchin is honored to support and partner with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to continue good works in our community.

These aren’t your average vending machines — each purchase is a tangible donation that goes straight to help people right here in our community (and beyond). Small action. Big impact.

Your donations benefit local charities: CAPK, The Open Door Network, Golden Empire Gleaners, Project Linus, Salvation Army — plus national partners Special Olympics and CWS.

Because of you, patients in our community got the second chances, extra tomorrows, and holidays together that they deserved. Every appointment, every first-time donor, every “I’ll roll up my sleeve again” moment added up to something huge in 2025.

Only volunteer donors can provide blood, platelets and plasma for transfusion to patients in need. Our caring staff will take good care of you, and donation takes about an hour the first time. We are always looking for new donors, and love to see returning donors as well. People live when people give at Houchin Community Blood Bank!
