Happy Wednesday everyone! While MOM Village strives to provide mental health services for children and adults, we also provide doula services for expecting and post-partum mothers! As such, we are giving some fun facts about the benefits of having a doula.
1. A doula can communicate your needs during your labor should you be in a hospital setting!
Going into labor is stressful enough. There are many times when you may not have the opportunity to express your wants to your medical staff due to any fears, anxieties, or adamancy of the hospital staff. Having a doula adds an individual who is dedicated to making the birth experience a comfortable one, meaning making sure your requests are followed through.
2. You can request a doula any time up until your birth or, possibly, a short time after!
Doulas are there to help the expecting mother have as much of a relaxing experience of pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum as possible. Typically, women have a doula early on in their pregnancy to get support throughout the whole experience and build a relationship. However, if the expecting mother needs additional support for only her labor, she has the opportunity to get that.
3. Doulas help take care of the newborn, allowing the mothers to have much-needed rest.
Once the bundle of joy is here, sleep is typically lost by the mother due to the newborn's rapid feeding schedule and the change in environment. Having a doula allows the mother to have more opportunities to catch up on sleep, which means less likelihood of developing conditions such as post-partum depression.
There is an abundant amount of more benefits that come with having a doula, especially for those who are of Black or brown ethnicity. If you or a loved one are currently expecting and would like to learn more about how MOM Village can support you, please contact us!
