You can be physically resting and still feel completely drained. This is more common than you might think. Rest isn’t just physical—if you’re someone who’s constantly “on alert” or carrying ongoing emotional stress, your brain may still be keeping your body in a heightened state, even when you’re trying to relax.
So while it might look like rest on the outside, your system may not actually be slowing down. Real rest often involves regulation, not just stopping. Small shifts can help, like slowing your breath, moving your body gently, stepping outside, reducing stimulation, and creating intentional quiet.
