LODD

Godspeed Lt. Vargas.
Your shift is over. We have it from here.

Please keep Lt. Vargas’s family as well as the Baltimore County Fire Department and the Baltimore County Volunteer Firefighters Association in your prayers.

It is with profound sorrow that we share the passing of Baltimore County Fire Department Fire Lieutenant Raymond Vargas Jr., who died in the line of duty on March 27, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. We will never forget Lieutenant Vargas' dedication to the fire service and his commitment to protecting Baltimore County.

Throughout his career, Lieutenant Vargas served with honor as a skilled firefighter, mentor, and friend to many. His impact on the department and those privileged to work alongside him remains profound, and we deeply feel his loss.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Lieutenant Vargas' family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. Lieutenant Vargas' legacy of service, strength, and dedication will continue to inspire us all. Our sincere thanks to our extended public safety family for your condolences and offers of support during this difficult time.

May we honor his memory by carrying forward the same passion and commitment he displayed every day.

This is a call-out to all of Ray's fire department brothers and sisters

Vargas' condition is rapidly deteriorating and the doctors don't think Ray will make it through the night.

Ray's wife has made it known that she would like Ray to have as many visitors as possible... The outpouring of support this far has been tremendously helpful to the family, and she knows how much the brotherhood meant to Vargas Ray

So please... If you are available and can make the trip to the hospital in the next few hours... Let's surround him with love and brotherhood in the brief time he has left.

Eric is one of our adjunct instructors. His knowledge, skills, and abilities are what we strive for all of our students. He is an excellent role model and mentor for new upcoming paramedic students.

We are so proud of him and his accomplishments. Congratulations Eric.

The Maryland EMS Clinician of the Year award recognizes an EMS clinician who has made outstanding contributions in the past year to the continuous improvement of emergency medical services in the state, such as in the areas of quality assurance, public or EMS education, prevention, delivery of EMS services, and new technologies. Last year, MIEMSS honored Cecil County DES Paramedic Erich Josef Goetz, whose inherent sense of curiosity and dedication have led him to take an active role in helping to develop the protocols (such as the Nitro Infusion pilot protocol) that guide Maryland’s EMS clinicians in their work each and every day. To submit your nominations for the 2025 Maryland EMS Citizen Award, or for more information about this or any of the other Maryland EMS Award categories, go to https://miemss.org/home/Public/Awards. The deadline for nominations is March 28, 2025.

Today, the EMST 105 morning class participated in a Mass Casualty Drill (MCI). During this drill, they learned how to establish incident command at an MCI, call for additional resources, begin initial patient triage, treat immediate life threats, move patients to the Casualty Collection Point (CCP), perform secondary triage, and transport the patients to appropriate hospitals with the assistance of SYSCOM.

If you want to become an EMT, you can register now for the Spring 2025 semester. The link is below to register.
