It's a situation where urgent medical procedures are hampered by the unavailability of a crucial resource. Gillian...

“The need for blood is constant. Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood – an often-invisible emergency that the rest of the world doesn’t see.” - American Red Cross

Did you know there is a shortage of donor blood and blood components? That there aren’t enough healthcare facilities and emergency vehicles equipped for blood transfusions? And, that there is a dwindling number of blood donors?

A recent letter published in the Journal of the American Medical Association emphasizes the donor blood crisis, which is leaving hospitals with an insufficient supply of donor blood, is putting patients at risk. This is where Hemafuse serves as a life-saving solution.

Using a patient's own blood, Hemafuse collects blood lost before or during surgery and makes that whole blood available for transfusion back to the patient in under 5 minutes. Our device operates anywhere there is a trained surgeon with no need for electricity and is used across trauma, obstetric, orthopedic, and general surgeries with internal bleeding.

The nation’s blood supply is “tenuous” because of its reliance on volunteers and problems with blood storage, the JAMA op-ed writers say.

The Medical Device Company for Emerging Markets

Sisu Global Health designs and commercializes medical devices with and for emerging markets. We develop patented, clinically proven, high-margin medical devices and are creating more than a product, we are creating a system for medical device commercialization in emerging markets. We have just launched our first patented product in Africa: Hemafuse, is a highly effective, mechanical alternative to donor blood. With a simple push and pull of a handle Hemafuse can salvage and recycle blood from internal bleeding in trauma. We are proving the commercial model for medical devices in emerging markets and changing the statistic that 80% of the world's medical devices are designed for 10% of the world's population.
