Hospital Leaders Can Use HHS Updated Cybersecurity Toolkit to Strengthen Resilience

Federal health officials are offering healthcare leaders a new way to assess cybersecurity risk and tie those risks more directly to patient safety and operational resilience. HHS recently added a cybersecurity module to its Risk Identification and Site Criticality (RISC) 2.0 Toolkit, a free web-based platform used by organizations to evaluate threats and vulnerabilities across their facilities.

Healthcare Risk and AI: Planning for Incident Response and Resilience

Given the stakes (patient privacy, regulatory liability, operational disruption), organizations need robust incident response plans (IRP) including procedures for breach detection, containment, notification (as required under HIPAA), restoration of systems, and communication with patients.

CMS Requires Qualified Health Plans Verify Compliance with Patient Safety Standards

The CMS patient safety standards require QHP issuers to confirm hospitals have programs or partnerships in place to promote effective patient safety interventions. These interventions focus on things like reducing the risk of patient harm, engaging patients and families in quality improvement, improving care coordination between providers, and monitoring performance on patient safety events.

Compliance Trends: What 2026 Will Demand of Healthcare Organizations

There’s a clear trend for 2026 healthcare compliance. The industry is moving away from “point in time” compliance to a model of consistent preparedness in daily operations. A survey every one to three years no longer reflects how risk actually occurs, how regulators evaluate organizations, or how healthcare operates day to day. Compliance that “checks the box” is giving way to outcome measurement, with impacts to funding and findings.
