This Mental Health Awareness Month, we honor not only those living with chronic or terminal illness, but also caregivers' strength and sacrifice.

"Neglecting your own needs isn’t sustainable," says Christy Blevins, DO, medical director, Adult Inpatient, Acadia Hospital. "Taking breaks, seeking counseling, and accepting help aren’t signs of weakness, they’re what allow you to keep giving care from a place of strength."

🌅 More Good Days in Maine 🌅

This May - Mental Health Awareness Month - let’s remember: mental health is health. It’s not separate, and it’s at the heart of how we live, love, and show up for ourselves and each other.

“More Good Days in Maine” isn’t about never struggling. It’s about connection and purpose. It's about finding peace in the small things, and knowing that it’s okay to not be okay, and that reaching out for help isn't weakness, it’s courage.

As Dr. Charmaine Patel, chief medical officer at Northern Light Acadia Hospital, says, “Reaching out and talking to someone isn’t falling apart. It’s taking care of yourself. And that’s something to be proud of.”

Let’s create more good days—together. 👉 Learn more and access free resources at: https://ow.ly/usQG50YTCUs

We're so incredibly proud of the important and compassionate work that Andrea and Annie, two Northern Light Acadia Hospital clinicians who are embedded with the Bangor Maine Police Department, do each day to support people in need in the community. 🥰 Keep up the amazing work!

Many departments are asked to walk a line between law enforcement and social work. Bangor Police Department and Northern Light Acadia Hospital (NLAH) were pioneers in the mental health liaison field being the first in the state to partner with a hospital to make sure that all citizens are getting connected with the help they need.

Annie Collins and Andrea Carver ride with Bangor Police Officers and provide another layer of support when it comes to navigating services for people who may be experiencing a mental crisis. How they interact with the public varies from incident to incident, often they will observe and “read the room” and then offer help and connect people to services. Annie has been working as a Liaison since April 2022, and Andreas since May of 2017. Both say that they can sometimes operate as a sounding board for people who simply need someone to listen.

The liaison positions are different from the Bangor Community Action Team, which also responds as an alternative to police officer involvement – connecting individuals to resources in the community, while the Mental Health Liaisons connect people with mental health services specifically.

Bangor Police was a pioneer in integrating behavioral health, dating back approximately 25 years, initiated with a collaboration of the State Department of Human Services (now the Department of Health and Human Services). Today, they continue the tradition and they are able to connect people in crisis with case workers, their knowledge of the healthcare system helps people avoid getting caught up in the red tape, and their familiarity with other resources can help them connect people with organizations that can suit that individual’s needs.

Want a department that is involved with its community and makes a difference in people's lives? Apply today.

Spring has officially sprung at Northern Light Acadia Hospital and so has the joy! 🌸💛

Big thanks to Hazel and Barbara, two of our amazing Patient Service Representatives, whose creativity and care keep the little kiosk space shown here blooming with every season. From holidays to special causes like Eating Disorders Awareness Week, they go above and beyond to brighten the day for patients, staff, and visitors alike. As you can see, they broke out their spring vibes, reminding us that it takes special people to make a place feel this warm and welcoming. 🥰

Thank you for all you do, Hazel and Barbara, and Happy Spring to all! 🌷✨
