March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month!

Our No Day But Today friends had a great time visiting the Akron Zoo in recognition of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. 🧡

The Akron Zoo offers free admission every year to guests wearing orange (the color we use to celebrate), to help raise awareness and promote inclusion within our community!

We're so grateful for our friends at the Akron Zoo for helping integrate people with developmental disabilities into our community and helping break social barriers that individuals in the community face.

While March celebrates DD Awareness, we integrate it into our daily lives, making a difference, one day at a time. After all, there is No Day But Today! 😉

Nisonger Crisis and Prevention Support Implementation Course!

At No Day But Today, we believe great support starts with understanding the why behind behavior — not just reacting to it. This training aligns perfectly with our values and the kind of care we want to provide every day.

For Black History Month, we’re honoring Johnnie Ann Lacy.
Lacy was a trailblazer in the disability rights and independent living movement.

Johnnie Lacy, a woman who contracted polio at age 19, and a wheelchair user for most of her life, dedicated her life to making sure people with disabilities had the right to live in their own homes, make their own choices, and be fully integrated in their communities. She insisted that people with disabilities- especially women and people of color- needed to be leaders in their own care and life decisions.
Lacy refused to accept limits society had placed on people with disabilities.

She became the first Black director of the Berkeley Center for Independent Living and worked tirelessly to replace institutions with community-based, person-centered supports.

Her advocacy expanded access to independent living services, personal care supports, and self-advocacy opportunities for people with developmental and physical disabilities across the United States.

At No Day But Today, the values that we believe in, such as independence, dignity, and choice, are built on the foundation she helped create. Our goal is to embody the principles and values that powerful leaders in this community like Johnnie Ann Lacy have built for us. Without advocates like her, our DD world would look much differently than it does today.

If you’d like to learn more about how NDBT supports independent living in our community, reach out to us!

Below is a picture of Johnnie Lacy and her family, found from the website Black Gold Storytellers. We urge everyone to read the story of her family, written by Sarai Bordeaux. 💜

On October 25, 2025, Carla and Rachel had the opportunity to attend the Ohio Provider Resource Association Fall Conference.

At this event, Carla Marszalkowski was named and awarded RN of the Year. Carla sets the standard for exceptional nursing through her unmatched clinical knowledge, calm and confident leadership, and unwavering commitment to the people she serves in the developmental disabilities community.

Being a RN, BSN CDDN (Certified Developmental Disability Nurse) is woven into who she is—it follows her home, shapes how she thinks, and guides the way she lives. Her family and friends know that the individuals she supports are always close to her heart. She has poured her entire career into becoming the nurse, advocate, and person she is today: selfless, compassionate, and deeply committed to the lives of others.

For over 30 years, Carla has been a quiet but powerful force for good in our DD system. She has touched countless lives, lifted up countless families, and inspired her colleagues to hold themselves to higher standards of care. She is the kind of nurse who changes lives simply by showing up every day with unwavering dedication.

Carla does not simply provide care—she changes lives.
Congratulations on this well-deserved honor.
