Virginia lawmakers are currently considering HB1462, a bill that could impact how behavioral health services are billed when care is provided by clinicians working under supervision. The bill would:

• Allow a licensed provider to bill for services performed by a supervised, pre-licensed clinician.
• Apply to services provided under the supervision of an appropriately licensed professional.
• Bring Medicaid policy more in line with the training model many behavioral health practices already use.

DME Billers: This is a big one...

For the first time ever, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued a nationwide moratorium on new Medicare enrollments for DMEPOS suppliers.

We’ve seen targeted moratoria before in certain cities & counties, but never across the entire country at once.

The moratorium will last 6 months and is aimed at addressing fraud, waste, and abuse patterns CMS has identified within the DMEPOS space.

If you’re in DME, credentialing, or Medicare enrollment, this is not a small policy update. We are entering a phase where compliance posture matters more than ever

Nationwide actions like this don’t happen casually.

If you’re billing under a virtual address such as a UPS Store in Box 32 of the CMS-1500, this is your reminder that it is NOT compliant.

That means the actual physical location where the services were rendered must be reported.

Not A UPS Store, Not a virtual office, Not a PO Box, & Not your billing company’s address. It must reflect the true brick-and-mortar site (or the physical practice location tied to telehealth services when applicable).

Payers use Box 32 to validate place of service. It impacts credentialing alignment. It affects network participation and audits. Mismatched addresses can trigger denials, requests for records, or compliance issues.

In a time when payers are tightening audits and validating provider data across PECOS, NPPES, and claim submissions, this is not a small detail.

Compliance isn’t just about codes. It’s about accuracy in every field.

One of the most challenging parts of the revenue cycle (and there are plenty) continues to be provider contracting and credentialing.

Provider relations often go silent. Contracts are approved but not loaded. Systems show providers as out-of-network when they aren’t. Accidental terminations happen far too often.

Now add 90-day data verification requirements. Even when payers receive the information on time, many can’t process updates within that same window. By the time one verification is addressed, the next is already past due. Why is CAQH not being utilized for this!?

This isn’t new, but it has escalated significantly in recent years: How does this change? Who is accountable? And how do we protect providers from system failures they do not control?

EBS makes daily calls, sends multiple emails and will message on social media for a contact to obtain answers. But it should not be this way. We are navigating a broken system.
