3. Explain how someone with a high school diploma can begin a career in blood banking

Description: Two experienced blood bankers will describe their careers, provide recommendations for people new to the field what they can do to advance their careers, and answer questions related to those topics.

Moderated by: Mary Berg, MD, Medical Director, Transfusion, Apheresis, and AutoTransfusion Services, University of Colorado Hospital; Professor of Clinical Pathology, University of Colorado

With 38 years of experience, half of which have been spent in teaching, Nonie has published abstracts and articles and recently co-authored the 6th edition of Basic & Applied Concepts of Blood Banking and Transfusion Practices (2025) with Paula Howard. I have enjoyed speaking and attending international, regional, and state professional meetings. I am a novice digital photographer and artist who enjoys acrylic painting on various substrates, including canvases and glass.
