Something I’ve learned from over a decade of working with children is that signs something is wrong do not always look the way people expect them to.
I have sat with children who were showing signs of distress long before they had the words to explain what was happening. I have also sat with parents who did not fully understand what they were seeing until later.
Even good parents miss things sometimes.
I have sat with parents carrying so much guilt, replaying moments they missed and wishing they had known sooner. More often than not, they were not uncaring. They just did not yet know what they were looking at.
Awareness is not about blame. It is about helping adults notice, respond, and support children with more care. 🤍
