Here are causes of Erectile Dysfunction by percent:
(Surprise stat: only 3% of ED cases are caused by low T alone)
40% caused by cardiovascular issues. This is why ED is a significant risk factor for vascular diseases. May require further screening.
What you can do now: Maintain good heart health, stop processed foods and alcohol, regular rigorous exercise, Omega 3 supplementation.
30% Diabetes. Insulin resistance and metabolic diseases have a significant impact on the systems needed to maintain an er****on.
What you can do now: Avoid diabetes. Cut the sugar. Eat high protein and healthy fats. Lift heavy weights. Prioritize gut health. Peptides like GLP-1 helpful to stop/reverse insulin resistance.
15% Medication causes. This is driven by the poly pharmaceutical nature of traditional medicine. Elders on average have 3 meds added to manage side effects for every initial therapy started. Propensity to prescribe SSRIs for younger individuals when life style strategies are likely more effective.
What you can do now: keep the main thing the main thing. You may need medication, but make sure you are addressing the basics first: nutrition, sleep, exercise, mental health, stress management.
Although only 6% of cases are documented as neurological in nature, we feel that number is likely much higher. Stress, unresolved trauma, resentments and emotions left unresolved affect sexual performance.
What you can do now: speak with a licensed mental health provider. The mind/brain is connected to the bodies ability to function, make sure you are caring for your mind.
In summary…..
When a man has ED, mainstream is quick to say it’s his low T!! While the stats don’t support that.
However, in all risk factors (vascular, metabolic etc.) there is a strong correlation between testosterone deficiency and these syndromes. So in other words, we need to consider the whole picture when evaluating ED and in many cases, TRT supplementation will be a part of that work up.
