As winter weather moved through our communities, one thing never wavered: our team members’ commitment to showing up for our patients and for each other.

Across the University of Maryland Medical System, team members navigated difficult roads, extended shifts, unpredictable conditions, and high-stress environments to ensure care continued without interruption. Whether they were at the bedside, supporting operations behind the scenes, or helping other team members get through long hours, their dedication did not go unnoticed.

Moments like this demand resilience, teamwork, and an unwavering focus on patient care — all while managing personal concerns and added pressure. We recognize how much that takes, and as a Medical System, we are deeply grateful.

Thank you for your professionalism, compassion, and determination during the storm. Your work is the reason our communities can count on us, no matter the conditions.

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, our President, Aaron Rabinowitz, along with Ken Ferrara (Senior VP of Philanthropy and External Relations) and Mulu Parks (Director of Wound Care), joined forces at the Harford County Action Agency food bank to honor Dr. King’s legacy through action.

Embracing the spirit of a “day on” rather than a “day off,” the group worked together to prepare food bags for delivery to community members facing food insecurity. This meaningful service opportunity brought together not only our team but also community volunteers, United Way of Central Maryland and members of the Harford County NAACP Branch.

Their collaborative efforts showcased our commitment to giving back and building strong partnerships with local organizations to make a positive impact in Harford County. Thank you to everyone who participated.

Winter weather is in our forecast, with potential snow and ice accumulation. Make sure to keep an eye on the weather reports and plan ahead - allow extra time for travel and keep your phone charged in case you lose power. Plus, here are some other tips for staying safe in wintery weather:

- Wear the right gear: Make sure you're dressed for the weather, including warm footwear with good traction for snow and ice.
- Shovel carefully: If you have heart issues, don't shovel without your doctor's approval.
- Keep any space heaters away from flammable materials: Check that your smoke alarms are working and consider installing carbon monoxide detectors.
