Much like your body knows how to mend a wound, your brain is naturally equipped to heal from trauma. This is what we call inner healing intelligence.

BTRC therapist Mary-Frances centers her work around this concept, to which she believes the brain is equipped with the tools and resilience needed to heal from traumatic events. She believes clients can access their inner healing intelligence and achieve self-determined healing with support and a safe container.

Raising a teen can be challenging. And sometimes, those challenges can feel overwhelming not just for teens, but also for the parents and caregivers who love them.

You might start to notice signs that your teen could use extra support:
- mood swings that don’t seem to pass
- frequent arguments at home
- risky choices
- sudden changes in school performance
- struggles with friendships
- or even signs of past trauma.

Teens may also wrestle with questions about identity, self-worth, or feeling “different” from their peers.

These struggles aren’t just a phase. When left unaddressed, they can affect relationships, confidence, and overall well-being. That’s where family therapy can make a difference.

At BTRC, we create a safe, compassionate space where teens and families can talk openly, understand each other better, and work together toward healthier communication and stronger connections. 💙

Addiction taps into the brain’s reward system, especially a chemical called dopamine, which makes us crave that feel-good “high” again and again.

Over time, the brain starts to rely on the substance or behavior just to feel normal. Triggers like stress, trauma, or loneliness make the cycle even stronger.

But the brain can heal. With the right support, including trauma-informed therapy, recovery is possible.

Struggling with urges or patterns you can’t break? Talk to one of our therapists. We’re here to help. 😊

It's time to speak about something a lot of people struggle with but rarely say out loud... Uncontrollable sexual behavior.

If it feels like s*xual urges or certain behaviors have become a way to escape, numb out, or feel something - it’s not because someone wants to act that way. It’s because, in that moment, it feels like they have to. Like it is out of their control.

This kind of behavior often stems from deeper pain: past trauma, anxiety, loneliness, or unmet emotional needs. It can become a coping mechanism, and over time, the brain starts chasing the short-term relief, even when it leads to guilt or shame.

It’s not about willpower. It’s about understanding what’s underneath.

Therapy can help. So can support groups, healthy boundaries, and learning how to ride the wave of urges instead of being pulled under.

At BTRC, our trauma-informed therapists are here to help.

Menopause causes major shifts in estrogen and progesterone, hormones that play big roles in mood and brain chemistry.

▶️ Estrogen helps produce serotonin, the brain’s “feel-good” chemical. When estrogen drops, serotonin can dip too, leading to anxiety, depression, irritability, and mood swings.

▶️ Progesterone supports the calming neurotransmitter GABA, so lower levels can mean restlessness, insomnia, and emotional sensitivity.

These changes disrupt the brain’s balance, making mood and stress harder to manage during menopause.

Recognizing this helps us honor these feelings and seek the right support (whether through therapy, lifestyle changes, or hormone therapy) to nurture mental health in this transition.

Attachment wounds often shape how we connect, sometimes without us even realizing it. These early emotional injuries, formed in childhood through inconsistent or unavailable caregivers, can show up like these. Though these patterns aren’t flaws, they’re survival strategies shaped by your earliest experiences. Healing them means learning to recognize these old wounds and gently rewrite how you relate to yourself and others.

Have you noticed any of these patterns in your relationships?
